The longer approach
Started out at Echo Lake for this one. Passed the Idaho Spring reservoir, then Lower Chicago Lake and Upper Chicago Lake. Then it was past Summit Lake and up to Spalding. Got a little off track on the way and ended up under the trail in the cliffs before I caught a nice slope to get me back on top of the ridge. Crossed the tundra and did the Sawtooth, passing Abyss Lake along the way. Then all I had to do was the whole thing in reverse. Was a little over 17.5 miles for the whole day and had to do an extra 900 feet of climbing on the way out.
But if you want to avoid the parking at Summit Lake and Guanella Pass and aren't afraid of a long day, this is the way to go
Started from Guanella Pass with a good friend from college. It was my 6th 14er, his 1st. Great weather, with little wind at the summit.

West slopes from Guanella Pass
Guanella pass just opened so I started from the traihead near the pass. Drove up from Denver (very) early in the morning to have an early start (5.30 AM) to avoid postholing since there was still a lot of snow present. Great day out , met a lot of nice people on the way.

Spring bierstadt
Snowshoes through the willows, then switched to microspikes.
Started at 5:30, summitted at 9ish.
By 11 or so it started getting really warm and the snow was getting soft - I saw people heading up who started hours later than me but was glad I had gotten up early

Bierstadt via west slopes
Started at the winter trailhead, snowshoed up the road to the guanella pass th. Approach to the west slopes was windblown snow snowshoes were helpful. Switched to microspikes midway up as the snow was blown away. Suffered a bit from a headache but powered through summited
Really cool to combo Bierstadt and Evans. Made sure to have a beer at the summit.

A weekend trip from Wisconsin
My first 14er! I flew in from Wisconsin the evening before and had zero acclimatization. It was tough but it felt great to reach the top! Beautiful weather that day as well!

Crowded
Got a sunrise start right around 6:00. The boardwalk across the willows was slick with morning frost or ice on it. One section isn't very level at all as one side has settled. I promptly ended falling and hanging over the boardwalk with my hat and sunglasses in the water. I apparently wasn't the only one this happened to that morning. At any rate, me and about 300 other people hit the summit that day, with at least 40 of them being on top at the same time as me. If it's solitude and peace and quiet that you like, don't do this one in the summer.
Flew from GNP to visit my sister in Denver. Met up with Jeff, who wanted to start climbing/hiking 14ers. We made our way up Bierstadt, over the sawtooth and to evans. Great day.

Late Afternoon into Evening Climb - Sunset from Summit
I climbed this one after work. The trail is straightforward, I wasn't worried about using a headlamp on the way back down. There weren't many on the trail that day. Happy Trails.
