I have climbed this mountain more times than I can count. I highly recomend this trip. It is where I was introduced to hiking and the outdoors.
Did it with Cub Scout Pack 1620 as part of an event I plan called the Cubmaster's Challenge. 30 of us went as a group up Manning over Firescrew and down Holt (via the cutoff). Unfortunately it was a rainy day so the views were a bit diminished but all in all it was a great time.
A wonderful climb and wonderful day.
Hiked with my wife, two year old and four year old. Little icy on top and very windy. Everybody had a great time! Good intro to winter hiking for the kids.
See my TR when I did this peak back in 2006!
Beautiful day. Fair amount of people but not too many.
Trail is iced over in spots but the dome is clear.
long day hike from my base camp to a summit that was clouded over. It's all good!
One of my favorite NH peaks. Has the views and feel of a mountain twice its size.
I climbed Mt. Cardigan twice (both in summer), once when I was 13, and again at age 14. The first time we climbed it had rained the previous day and I got stuck on exposed rock near the summit, and unable to get an adequate foothold. Another kid got stuck, and was in danger of falling, and we had to all together pull him up. I can still remember the scared look on his face!
Cardigan was a tricky climb that day. It was the first time I ever got in trouble on a mountain and doubted my safety. You think that discouraged me from climbing? HELL NO!
Cardigan was a fun climb from my youth, and I'd like to do it again some day. I mostly remember the big rock on the trail with a big crack in the middle. I cut my hand badly the first time I had to climb up that rock. The trail was definitely class 2, and FUN!
This is so far my favorite. It was windy on top and the view was very good.
