There is no cap on the register, all the papers are blown out. I know there was one last fall when I signed it.
Headed up in the afternoon, Rain and dark clouds, with a little light snow.
Continued up Carillon after Russell.
Cruised up Carillon before going up the east ridge of Russell.
Hit this on return from east ridge of Russell. Small summit with steep relief, nice.
A friend of mine refers to the seemingly unending sandy slope as "poop-out hill," which I think is an apt description. After getting up the sandy slope and going up Russell's East Ridge, we decided to wander over and check out Carillon, before heading down. Worth the wander! Beautiful views and a cool perspective of Russell.
Ascended Carillon since we were there after hauling a load from the Portal to UBSL before ascending the Rockwell Variation to the East Ridge of Russell. Descended the sand slope to UBSL.
fun and unique views of russell and whitney.
Fun summit to hike, after coming down from Russell. Cell phone reception on the summit (probably from Lone Pine.) This was my first day I bagged two peaks in one hike.
Fast car to car with Jim after spending a week climbing in Tuolumne Meadows.
We had a short weekend, so stayed in a motel, and climbed Carillon the next day. Only saw a few parties hiking out that Sunday, mostly from doing routes on Whitney. Pretty routine route, but weather was unstable, with thunderstorm activity lurking about. We ascended at 1000 feet per hour, which is OK for an off the couch couple in their mid 40's. Trail up through the Ebersacher Ledges and to lower boyscout lake has improved greatly from just a few years ago. Views of Mt. Russel from Carillon are awesome.
I was heading for Russell and Carillon, but got rain, hail, lightning, and Carillon instead. I still would call that a good day. Have to go back again for Russell, though.
Route from Clyde Meadows is direct. Good class 3 scrambling on good rock can be had in the last 400 feet if you traverse high to Carillon's summit.
After topping Mt. Russell via the East Ridge, we went for a side trip scramble and topped another 13er. Great views.
Easy scramble after doing East Ridge Russell (the day after a solo of Humphreys).
with Rich Kim and Pat Hadley
After a failed attempt at Russell due to snow, we climbed Carillon and called it a day
Some time in the distant past wanted to do Russell but had too much snow on it for our tastes....
Holy crap! I read somewhere there is less scree in Rockwell....sheeeeeit! Enjoyed the western ridge of Carillon, pulling as much 3rd and 4th class as I could.
