Last of the 48  Sucess!

Two hours and forty two minutes to the top from Sawyer River Road, took five minutes more than that to get back down in the dark. No views to be had from the ridge or the fire tower. It was about fifty degrees with a thirty mph steady wind on the tower that was sheathed in cloud and sixty eight humid degrees at the TH. The trail itself was well laid out with few muddy spots.

First of the 48  Sucess!

This was my first of the NH 48, but unfortunately we had no views due to rain. Still a great hike and would definitely like to go back.

Not as long as expected  Sucess!

Wet and foggy, wasn't too cold all things considered. Able to go up in shorts and a long sleeve; no good views.

Rainy  Sucess!

Only rainy day of the trip. None of the famous views seen this day. Ridge was kind of neat in the wind and rain.

Nice hike  Sucess!

Hiked through the notch, around the back and up the Desolation Trail. Not as steep as I thought it might be. Not many views up top with the clouds but was a nice snowy day.

Route Climbed: Signal Ridge Trail  Sucess!

Not much to say. Outstanding summit. Great day in the mountains. Loved the solitude.

Beautiful day  Sucess!

Two people from the "Random Hikers" group and myself went up the Signal Ridge Trail on a beautiful day. Will is from Texas and is just getting into climbing. It was his first 4000 footer. He had on brand new hiking boots that were not broken in and ended up with gigantic blisters on his heels. Despite this, he kept pace with Kristin and myself. We had great views from the tower and could see everything except the top of Washington (covered in clouds, as usual). The climb is typical White Mountain's. You can't see s--- for most of it, except trees. I think I'd enjoy Carrigan more in the fall where you could start to get some views at the lower elevations. But, hey, I prefer winter hiking anyway.

Mount Carrigain  Sucess!

Climbed via the Signal Ridge Trail from the Saywer River Road. Plenty of wildflowers along the trails. The ascent up Signal Ridge was the best part of the hike offering great views of the of Sandwhich Range to the South and of the Presidentials and the Dry River Wilderness to the East. Carrigain definately has a remote and isolated feeling to it.

Long time ago  Sucess!

It was awhile ago. I do remember we bumped into a large smelly animal rustling in the underbrush. Scared the you-know-what out of us. We're guessing it was a bear or moose or something. There were thousands of flies buzzing around. Who knows!

Signal Ridge Trail  Sucess!

It was bug city for the majority of the trail until we started gaining elevation and left the streams and wet spots behind us. Fairly hot temps with very stagnant air. The only breeze we caught all day was on the observation deck. Hazy, but good views for 360 degrees. Could see the Cog and towers on Washington.

We took a drip in the brook on the way down. There is one spot where it must have been 4.5 to 5 feet deep. I'd recommend holding out to swim there and not in the shallow bits before and after it. Very refreshing water made the trip that much more worth it.

Good trip and nice peak. We'll likely want to do this one again in cooler weather.

Route Climbed: Signal Ridge Date Climbed: 6 Sept 2005  Sucess!

Nice easy hike, especially coming straight from the Sierra :-) Good to be back home, and only 2 more 4000 fters to go. Met a woman on her way back down, having just completed the list. Amazingly clear views, perhaps the most mtns I've ever seen in the Whites.
