hiked it '07  Sucess!

I took the Champney Falls trail from the Kanc with my dad, sisters, and cousin. It was a beautiful day and we could see for miles. I loved the rocky top.

Beautiful  Sucess!

I've climbed this from both sides. Probably one of the better views in the White Mountains despite not being a 4000 footer.

Last Peak on a Backpacking trip, fun  Sucess!

Sunbathed on the summit for 3 hours before reluctantly heading to the bus with the camp group and ending our trip

clear spring day  Sucess!

I went on a nice clear spring day. The Champney Falls had a nice stream of water going. There was a nice snow cap on Mt. Washington. It was a nice two season look to the mountain. White snow winter on top, with nice green spring valley below. A very good day.

Quiet day up Champney falls  Sucess!

Beautiful cold day, didn't see a soul until just before my return to the parking lot. Lots of ice flows over the trail made for some interseting times when I was too lazy to put on my crampons.

Liberty Trail Up and Back  Sucess!

Trail was very wet, and in spots it was a stream for most of the trip. The trail dried out a lot from the Liberty cabin to the summit. View were limited due to sporadic rain. Many, many people on the summit.

Great Views  Sucess!

Hiked on a sunny day. The views were spectacular and we had a very crowded summit. Brook Trail was fun, Liberty trail on descent was very wet

Route: Liberty  Sucess!

The great weather report didn't work out so well and we were in the clouds all day. Overall, great trip. Swiss sleds on the way down was definitely the way to go despite the sporadic mud patches.

great for beginners

I got my kids interested in climbing by doing this mountain when they could barely just walk. It's an easy climb, with great views.Champney Falls is the more scenic route.

When Chocorua Isn't Bald  Sucess!

I climbed Mount Chocorua after a night of camping in the forest at its base with a group of students in the New England Literature Program of the University of Michigan. All these students scramble up to the summit and enjoy their lunch. Many take out their journals and write about what may be their first experience climbing any real peak (as Michigan only offers hills). 40 college students up there covers the summit pretty well, at least as well as your average toupée. If you climb in early May you'll have a good chance of coming across them as a hike up Chocorua is prologue to a later trip they take up Mount Washington in early June.

Champney Falls Snowboard Descent  Sucess!

Pretty decent snowboard run. Summit scramble is the highlight though. Top of Champney Falls Trail is narrow, middle sections would be great with a little pruning. I was able to make it all the way to the trailhead with some (a lot of) poling.

Champney Falls to Bolles Tr. Loop

Champney Falls trail was well packed after a recent 2' snowfall. Very cold and windy but sunny and had the summit to myself. Rather unwisely chose to descend via Beeline/Bolles trails, only to find them mostly unbroken.

Piper trail and Champney falls routes to summit (different dates)  Sucess!

I recommend the Champney falls route to the summit. it was beautiful in full color of early October and the falls were quaint. The summit tends to be crowded but nice for scrambles and class 4 stuff. The views are nice as the summit is above treeline

Beatuiful hike up the nicest 3000 footer around. Only other comparable 3k peak would be Noonmark in Keene Valley, Adirondacks. Broke off the main trail when summit came into view and found some 5th class to top out on.

Route Climbed: champney falls Date Climbed: june 25, 2005  Sucess!

Ridiculously hot day - haze diminished the view, but it was an achievement just to reach the summit. Not surprisingly, spent more time (and photo memory) at the waterfalls than at the top.
