I didn't know that bison could hit 40 mph. That would be kind of like being run over by a small car.

Indeed, that is an apt comparison. Like bears, bison look slow and lumbering...but don't be fooled! =)

Thanks, Jer. I really enjoyed our visit to SD. It's familiar (reminds me of the Rampart Range, for instance) yet still different. It's a great, fairly nearby place for Colorado peak nerds to explore!
