North & South Ridges  Sucess!

Years and years after it made my to do list, I finally payed my 1st visit to the Never Summer Range. Did a long, enjoyable loop on a perfect weather day over "Never Summer Peak", Lead Mountain, Hart Ridge, Mount Cirrus, Howard Mountain, Mount Cumulus, Mount Nimbus & Red Mountain.

Cumulus from Opposition Creek  Sucess!

A nice route up the newly snow topped Mt. Cumulus. I was aiming to get over to Nimbus as well but the unconsolidated snow on the rocks as well as the namesake clouds on the horizon turned me around. Never the less a cool peak in a awesome range!

From Colorado River Trailhead  Sucess!

Should have done this a couple of weeks earlier when there was still enough snow to cover the loose rock of the Never Summers.

NanitaD  Sucess!

We hiked from the Colorado River trailhead to the Grand Ditch. Headed south to Opposition Creek then followed the ridge on the north side of the creek to the Cumulus summit ridge. The Never Summer Range is full of loose boulders and the ridge was no exception. We went from Cumulus to Mt. Nimbus

Route Climbed: south ridge? Date Climbed: May of 2005  Sucess!

I ascended the south ridge from Mount Nimbus and descended the nice west ridge back down into Opposition Basin. Maybe all that snow covered a lot of nasty downfall but I don't recall the descending bushwhack to be all that bad.

Cumulus has an more interesting name than most mountains, however I wish I could say the same about its route. A bit of a slog.

I did really enjoy my day up there. Lot's of solitude, and it was great exploring an area that I had never been in. I'll go back.

Route Climbed: North Ridge -- Traverse from Lead Mountain Date Climbed: sept 17, 2005  Sucess!

Awesome ridge, but, like Andy said, the descent was a bit elephant of a mountain...
