Dog Route

Still lots of snow in Yosemite! A very accessible 13'er from Tioga Pass, though not a huge fan of the trail.

Route Climbed: Dana Couloir Date Climbed: 7/9/2005 Sucess!
Climbed with balajisv. Bergschrund is just opening, about 10 ft. long. We brought rope and pro but didn't need it as there wasn't any ice exposed in the gully.

Route Climbed: Glacier Canyon/North Face Date Climbed: 2003? Sucess!
Climbed with Anna on her quest to conquer Dana. We decided to not be a tourist and do a variation starting in Glacier Canyon. We descended the normal route.

Sloppy Snow Conditions  Sucess!

Late start after driving up from LA. Warm and sunny day with soft snow conditions. Postholing knee to hip deep so we tried to keep to the rocks.

Third Pillar and trail  Sucess!

One of my favorite peaks. Climbed it probably 4 or 5 times now.

Incredible!  Sucess!

I have climbed this mountain twice...once with a climbing partner and once with my husband in May 2012 in preparation for Mount Shasta (testing elevation)

Each time it was incredibly rough...short hike with elevation gains to take your breath away. It stands as my favorite mountain to date.

Great view of Mono Lake  Sucess!

Views hiking up the mountain is not that spectacular, but my jaw dropped once I was at the peak with the view of Mono lake.

Great dayhike. Addictive  Sucess!

As part of a solo throughike of the Tuolomne region, I stopped here for a farewell hike before leaving. I recommend picking up a hot cuppa joe at the Saddlebag Lake lodge. If you can enter fast enoughit will till be hot for most of your hike up. The route is pretty obvious and its a lovel walk up the back and then presto the view from the peak sweeps out before you.

That beautiful lake

All I can remember about this mountain is the view of the Mono Lake and the rocky top. Done in 2005 or 2006

Windy but Sunny   Sucess!

I hiked Mt Dana to acclimatize for my Mt Whitney hike. Very nice and accessible hike. I wish I had the time to travers to Mt Gibbs, but I didn't. 3 miles to summit, 5 hours roundtrip.

Rock pile  Sucess!

As everyone else says, this is a huge pile of talus. Mostly challenging (for beginners/out-of-shape folks) from cardio perspective, thus making it good warmup/acclimation hike.

From Tioga lake campground  Sucess!

Headed west over meadows to Tioga pass, then took the trail to the top, aiming for the rock cairns. Amazing view from the top over Tuolumne across the San Joaquin valley to the coast range / Mt Diablo. Could almost see the Pacific.

From Tioga Pass  Sucess!

Date approximate, definitely summer of '91. After all these years, this is still the tallest mountain whose summit I've reached (not counting the drive to Mount Evans!). Hoping to rectify that this year, but I still have very fond memories of the hike to Mount Dana.

Beautiful Sunrise  Sucess!

Started from Tioga Pass Ranger Station at 4. Got up to the little cairn at 5, and made it to the top around 6 just in time for a beautiful sunrise!

From Tioga Pass  Sucess!

Pretty short hike from Tioga Pass. The rangers are currently trying to restore and improve the trail to the summit. So there's a trail all the way up now.

Nice Hike  Sucess!

I agree that the view of Mono Lake is spectacular from up there. The little lakes in the valley on the way up were also picturesque and I have nice "wallpaper" for my PC from one of them. We were also treated to gliders soaring above us when we were at the summit. All in all a trip I'll never forget.

1978 & 2011  Sucess!

In '78 via a contrived linkage of snow and ice smears put together by my partner. Dana Couloir in 2011 with perfect snow conditions

Great for people watching  Sucess!

As my fiancee was waiting for me back at June Lake I had to make my climb quick so I took the trail up. The view on the way up especially of the Cathedral Range made it worth it. It is worth noting all the inexperienced and unprepared people who attempt this. Watching them is its own reward.

Scramble from Tioga  Sucess!

Unimpressive view of the peak during the climb but the unexpected view of Mono Lake made the scramble totally worth it.
