Nice Hike  Sucess!

Nice hike, a bit over 2 hrs to the top. Left early so we had the summit to our selves for over an hour. Saw lots of folks on the way down.

Marmots and grand views  Sucess!

One of the best views in the Sierra! A pleasant hike up from Tioga Pass through the marmots. It always seems to be a first day climb though so coming from sea level you gotta remember to take the aspirin prophylactically!

quake day  Sucess!

Mt Dana was the first 13,000 peak I ever climbed. I had spent the night at one of the campgrounds below the pass and it was a lovely day. I remember when I returned to my truck I felt it shaking a little bit. I thought it strange that it would shake when there was no wind. When I returned to Bishop where I spent the night, all TV channels were full of coverage of the bay area earthquake. I had actually felt it near the summit of Tioga Pass, it was humbling to think of just how much power a quake has, pretty incredible.

One of my personal faves  Sucess!

I've done the trail a few times now and absolutely love it. The wildflowers, the marmots, looking down at the glacial lakes in Dana Canyon. I love the high country.

Whitney Next  Sucess!

Departed South Shore Lake Tahoe at 7am and drove to Tioga pass. Parked outside Yosemite entrance and was climbing before 10am. Climb was exactly what I expected. Perfect for testing my ability to handle altitude (over 13k feet) while testing recently damaged knee. Not the most scenic hike I have made but well worth the time.

What?!?.......Are you For Real?!?......I'm Engaged!!!

Yes, it's true he got down on one knee right here.... at the top of this peak!!! The stars aligned for us... thank goodness for no altitude sickness. Though sometimes I wonder about that, perhaps it was the altitude sickness that made me say yes....lol. I remember being in 7th heaven & completely surprised that day!!! He couldn't have picked a better place!!!

Use trail in October  Sucess!

It was a very enjoyable hike, even though the cold air and some headache made it a little more difficult. Very soon after the treeline ended the alpine views were stunning.

NW Slope/West Slope ("Standard Route")  Sucess!

despite my partner's AMS causing dry heaves from the descent all the way back to TM campground (and not stopping until we got back to 4000 ft outside the park), great success! taught us the value of acclimation before our bid for Shasta... glad we did this rather than Lassen as a warm-up! note to self: traveling from sea-level to 13,000 ft in 18 hrs does not treat some people well =/

Standard Route  Sucess!

Started at 430 am. Well worn trail up to plateau then fairly easy to follow use trail to summit. Large snowfields made descent easier. Observed mountain finches on the snow gleaning frozen insects carried up by the high winds.
