High winds and a big weather front was moving in. Post-holed most of the way up, about 18 inches of snow. Very rewarding. though!! Had plans to traverse to Gibbs and camp but with the storm blowing in, I got down and then outa' town. I here the views are great but with so much cloud cover, didn't get the full affect. But because of the weather, it was interesting up there.
Beautiful hike on a beautiful day......got some good pictures. Hit the Mobil on the way out in Lee Vining.
Took two hours to summit on a beautiful September morning.
Met seven people at the summit. Great views!
Arrived in Toulumne late Friday night from Chicago. Hiked up Mount Dana Saturday afternoon from the park entrance at Tioga pass on day 1 of a 7 day trip. The wildflowers along the trail were unbelieveable! Perhaps the best I've seen.
Cruised over to Gibbs after making the summit from Tioga Pass. Fun dayhike with amazing views.
Spent 2:20 to the top. Summited Gibbs same day.
Descended southeasterly to the saddle between Mount Gibbs, but ran short on time so we abandoned 2nd peak bag attempt and followed the drainage West and Northwest cross country to Dana Meadows. Long and satisfying day!
Nice hike, a bit over 2 hrs to the top. Left early so we had the summit to our selves for over an hour. Saw lots of folks on the way down.
Beautiful day on Mt. Dana...spectacular views from the summit! Fun times glissading down from the summit near the coulour. Ended up losing my digital camera in the process!
Up and down from the Dana/Gibbs saddle on the way out of an overnight trip, after hiking Kiop and Kuna the day before, and Gibbs in the morning.
One of the best views in the Sierra! A pleasant hike up from Tioga Pass through the marmots. It always seems to be a first day climb though so coming from sea level you gotta remember to take the aspirin prophylactically!
hiked NW slope from tioga pass..pleasant hike and fulfillment of my desire to see mono lake from summit!
First peak bagged after moving to Bishop. Looped with Mt. Gibb
A great solo with awesome ice. not too steep.
Mt Dana was the first 13,000 peak I ever climbed. I had spent the night at one of the campgrounds below the pass and it was a lovely day. I remember when I returned to my truck I felt it shaking a little bit. I thought it strange that it would shake when there was no wind. When I returned to Bishop where I spent the night, all TV channels were full of coverage of the bay area earthquake. I had actually felt it near the summit of Tioga Pass, it was humbling to think of just how much power a quake has, pretty incredible.
Nice morning hike and glissade down on the left-over spring snow.
I've done the trail a few times now and absolutely love it. The wildflowers, the marmots, looking down at the glacial lakes in Dana Canyon. I love the high country.
Left car at 6:30am, summit at 8:15am. Strong, icy winds and intermittent snow. Glad to get back to the car!
Skinned the Northwest slopes to summit in 2005 and skied ascent route. Then May 2009, skied Solstice Couloir.
