After driving in a rain storm from Backbone Mountain to Mount Davis in the rain it was nice to finally reach the 3rd state HP in 24 hrs. Unfortunately there was no visibility from the summit tower.

Lots of reading material
Plenty of plaques to read on the top. Came back in April 2009 with my kids and slogged through the mud along the trail to the top.

My 1st Highpoint
I grew up in PA and decided that this was a good place to start "highpointing". Traveled to PA for a week long camping/ adventure/ homesick cure trip. Beautiful drive thru rural PA to this summit. Very easy to find and empty when I got there. Climbed the firetower and almost got blown off by the wind. Nice spot on the earth.
Had a little confusion finding the actual HP. Turned out I just didnt go far enough down the road saw the Maryland HP road sign and didnt drive past it to the road leading to the actual HP. Once we found it. Great HP, climbed the fire tower.

Drifts of Snow
Trudged for 2 hours to reached the "summit" and back again in yard-deep snow. No snowshoes, so the going was slow but challenging. The trees were clothed in white and bent low under the weight of frost, obscuring the trail.

HP 32
Drove down from Pittsburgh with Sarah for a trifecta highpoint weekend. We hit Mt Davis and Backbone Mountain on Oct 23rd with fellow SPer xDoogiex. Sarah and I then hit Spruce Knob the following morning. We timed the autumn color change perfectly. Sadly, it was foggy on the 23rd and our visibility was pretty limited. Happily, we woke up the next morning to clear skies and were able to enjoy beautiful views on Spruce Knob.

State Highpoint #3
Did as a 3-peak series with Backbone, and Spruce Knob. Loved the pride PA puts in their highpoint with the exhibits of wild child, and brutal parents. Loved the tower, but especially loved the stake driven deep into the rock near the tower. The true high point. ha ha
Not much of a view from the summit but I enjoyed the view from the top of the observation tower. After leaving we drove without stopping for the night all the way back to Madison, WI. Adding to that excitement was having 2 young kids in the van. It was a nice stop on the way home.
