First of three high points for the day. Hiked up from the picnic area and it was easy, which is good because all the running around in the Catskills earlier in the week gave me a nasty cold. Nice observation tower and plaque area.
A bit tricky to find, at least from the directions Google gave me, but well worth it. The exhibits near the tower are very interesting and the tower itself affords a great view. Very pretty part of the country.
Second Highpoint of the day, went to Backbone Mountain, Maryland earlier in the day and Spruce Knob the day before. Make sure to climb the observation tower for some good views.
Nice area of the country to visit. I passed a small Amish convoy on the way there - drive slowly on those country roads...
BlackJack! hike from the parking area about .7 mile each way. nice way to strecth legs after driving from NYC
This was the first of 3 highpoints on the day. Really enjoyed the drive through this part of Pennsylvania.
October Climb with ice covered fire tower.
The signs for this HP are deceiving. Those Amish are tricksters.
Dark and Snowy
Very foggy up top, not much of a view from the tower. Had the summit to ourselves though.
This was my second SHP. I got there early and there wasn't anyone around.
WV-MD-PA in five hours
Just catching up to logging "summits" after seeing recommended sites to visit.
Part of a highpointing adventure through PA with TrailtrekerDawg.
Had to carry the pooch up the tower to enjoy the view.
After turning off of road 2002, my rental car wouldn't make it up the snow covered road, so I enjoyed a nice, quiet hike through the snow. I was surprised to see a few locals who had driven to the top, as well as a couple hiking up from the same point I had. HP35
Better than a drive up, but not exactly taxing either. It was deserted and the view from the tower was pretty good. Scared up a few pheasants as well.
1st of three highpoints after work on this Saturday afternoon
After driving in a rain storm from Backbone Mountain to Mount Davis in the rain it was nice to finally reach the 3rd state HP in 24 hrs. Unfortunately there was no visibility from the summit tower.
Plenty of plaques to read on the top. Came back in April 2009 with my kids and slogged through the mud along the trail to the top.
We took the easy way from the picnic area which was deserted. With lesdubois, Elisabeth, and Sam.
The 3rd of a 3-peak weekend... Spruce Knob yesterday... Backbone Mtn this AM. Dang it was COLD and ~windy~ at the top of the tower (steps were iced and nearly fell on me arse..)
