From Thousand Island Lake  Sucess!

A pretty straightforward ascent from the lake to the pass to the peak. Superb views along the way.

From Lake Catherine/North Glacier Pass  Sucess!

3 friends and I started from the northern shores of Thousand Island Lake at 9:00 and hiked west over North Glacier Pass (awesome scenery). After taking a lunch break at Lake Catherine, we worked our way around the rocky shoreline and began a long, but manageable scramble to the southern saddle of Davis. One of my friends suddenly became overwhelmed with a sense of "Oh, I might actually die up here" and elected to turn around with my other friend. Luckily, Evan and I persevered over ankle-breaking terrain and made it to the precarious summit mid-afternoon. The views were well worth it, and we got back to our campsite just before dark.

Davis/Electra day hike  Sucess!

Loop from Agnew Meadows with Tommey Jo. 18.5 hours car-to-car with a couple of 30 minute breaks. In retrospect, Rush Creek TH might have been a bit faster and doing the loop in reverse (Electra then Davis) better but who really knows?

From 1000 Island Lake  Sucess!

A morning hike from a base camp at 1000 Island Lake, via the system of terraces north of Lake Catherine. Six hours for the entire round trip. Almost no snow left on the plateau. About 20 parties have visited the mountain so far this season. Packed my stuff, and returned back to the Agnew Meadows trailhead later in the afternoon. Trip report.

Ritter-Davis doubleheader from Lake Catherine  Sucess!

The second stop in a double header from Lake Catherine: Ritter in the morning, Davis in the afternoon. Not much snow left on the summit plateau. An hour and a half to the top, another hour for the trip back to Catherine. Fine weather. About twenty-five parties signed SPS summit register up to now in 2009. Trip report.

NE Ridge & Glacier  Sucess!

Hiked the NE Ridge from Island Pass, passed Pt 3505 on the left and crossed to the final gully of the North Glacier (Secor) at ~3500m (11500ft). The entire ridge up to that point is very nice hiking without scree. Beautiful views of Banner/Ritter, Thousand Island Lake, and Davis Lakes along the entire ridge

From Banner  Sucess!

Over from Banner after camping at 1000 Is Lake. Solid snow made the going a bit easier than following the big talus. Stunning views of Ritter and Banner in the afternoon light. Overall a great day.

SE slope from Lake Catherine  Sucess!

Provided a very nice view from the summit on what turned into a long day hike through a lot of boulder fields. Perhaps the very best view was of the West side of Banner and Ritter. While the view of the peaks from Thousand Island Lake is one of the most photographed in the Sierras, this view is only seen by mountaineers. Well with summitting this rarely climbed peak.

Mt Davis  Sucess!

An easy climb from North Glacier Pass and Lake Catherine. Took me a bit to realize which highpoint was the actual summit, but perfect weather and easy climbing made it easy to get around and check.

SE Slopes  Sucess!

With Tom Becht, made a dayhike effort from the Rush Creek TH. Lots of unconsolidated snow from a late season snow made this far tougher than it would normally have been. Trip Report

West Slopes  Sucess!

After climbing Foerster and Electra the previous day and bivying at ~11000ft on the east slope below Electra, crossed the valley to Lake 3108, stashed the overnight gear and ascended the west slope. Found a class 2-3 chute leading to the summit plateau. Great early morning view of Banner and Ritter! Then descended the same way and hiked out to the Isberg Pass TH via Twin Island Lakes and Hemlock Crossing.

From North Glacier Pass  Sucess!

After establishing camp at Thousand Island Lake, I headed up North Glacier Pass on on to Mt Davis. Fairly interesting peak with great views. I returned to camp to find that a marmot had been eating my trekking poles.

Route Climbed: South East from Glacier Pass Date Climbed: August 16, 2004  Sucess!

Amazing but very long hike. Great views of Banner and Ritter, want to go back some day and climb them. We ended up hiking 20 miles all the way into Tuolumne Medows the next day after we climbed Mt. Davis.
