Great day for a climb. Got a very un-alpine start at 12:30pm. Did the mile and half climb in 30 minutes and found a parking lot on top with the summit inside a building. Great views on all sides but a little hazy and foggy.
Hiked the Juniper Trail from Diablo Vally Overlook to the summit and back, hiked over to Devil's Elbow, and then drove to Rock City later in the day. The view from the summit looking west was excellent. Could see Sutro Tower, Downtown SF, the Golden Gate, and Tamalpais. View east was limited due to valley fog.
Spectacular views after this week's Bay Area rains - Four Summits is a wonderful hike, no crowds on trail.. but pretty crowded at the summit with the "drive-up" folks on the top of Diablo.
hiked mt. olympia, north peak, and Diablo from regency drive in and out, with nice lunch break at the summit on 6 hours.
Hiked over to North Diablo and back via an enjoyable trail. The weather was windy but beautiful!
I've been making this my first spring hike for the last number of years. Always nice to shock the legs into action after a quiet winter.
Went with climbing partners S. Thompson and GMC Envoy. Started from Walnut Creek a little bit after 11:00AM. Reached the summit at about 12:30. Was a little disapointed when the ranger told me there was no summit register in which I could chronicle my efforts.
I like this trailhead more than Mitchell Canyon, because you start gaining elevation a lot sooner, and the scenery is more interesting. Did the Falls Loop on the way up.
Route Climbed: From Mitchell Canyon. The round trip is a strenuous 23.4 mile hike (11.7 mile one way). Felt quite a bit, especially in the sun, when you are the ONLY ONE on the trail.
This is not a very good training hike as it is mostly flat and hot for the first few miles; it took us 2:45 to get to the top though so it wasn't a huge time commitment.
Nice, easy hike. On the top the museum and a great view as a reward. Try to go on days with great visibility!
12/06/2003: Four Summits Loops from Regency Dr
09/25/2004, 3/13/2005: Four Summits Loop from Marsh Creek Rd
02/28/2004: From Hap McGee Park in Danville
02/8/2004: One-way from Syline Gate in Oakland
Lots of geocaches around the summit area! We easily got 5 (and there were still more around).
Quick but beautiful drive to the top with my wife and friends. A great peak, can't wait to return and climb from the bottom up. Tomorrow Mount Davidson and then a long drive home.
Grew up in the East Bay, know I've hiked up this guy several times, but don't remember much. Hey, I was only 8 or 9. :)
but I've hiked it before. This one is significant because I proposed to my fiancee . . . so I'm definitely checking the "were you successful" box!
I didn't drive to the top. A friend of mine led us on a hike from the Morgan(?) Open Space all the way up, then all the way down Mitchell Canyon on the other side. Long day. I remember my feet hurt like a ------.
Patches of snow left in places. Started raining at the top.
Summit Trail from Rock City to the summit. The trail was closed from south gate to rock city due to landslides.
Started at the end of Regency Dr. Took Donner Cayon-Meridian-Prospect-Summit Trial. Took 58 min up, 50 min down, total = 1 Hour 48 minutes (Running). Very mellow grade, with a few real steep parts. I Could see north to Snow Mountain and the Sutter Buttes Great day.
