Edwards and Argentine from Argentine Pass TH. Beautiful late summer day with clear skies and temps in the 50s. Leaves barely changing on the bushes. Met a CDT thru hiker on the summit of Edwards. Also a fellow grad of Utah State! Go Aggies! Moved slow today because I had the COVID booster shot two days prior and was still feeling some body aches. Fun ridge, great views!
Rough 4WD road up to the Mine in the dark, but not hiccups along the way. Got a quick start up the mountain to Edwards, then stuck, close to the ridgeline to get McClellan. No easy path back to Edwards, so I cut across the basin towards a glacier and made way up the south side of that to rejoin the "trail" back to the saddle between Edwards and Argentine. Followed some mountain goats up to Argentine (though, the path they chose to follow was harder than mine). From there, the cloud were looking a little scary, but weather reports told me I had a few more hours. I picked up the pace and crossed the gap over to Wilcox. Stick close to the ridgeline—there's remnants of a social trail there that will protect your ankles a bit more and protect the tundra. Summitted Wilcox and booked it back to the saddle to then follow a social trail down into the basin. However, the trail disappeared and I had to bushwhack back to the road to follow it back to the mine. If using my GPS to do the same, I recommend almost always sticking to the ridgeline between these mountains. Whenever I strayed away, I found myself coming back.

Good Grays views
I went up Argentine Pass from the west (Peru road, Horseshoe Mine). Saw a family of mountain goats. Several short steep snow crossings that might have mandated use of an ice axe in the early morning if not for a boot pack in place. The mountain is nothing too exciting but some pleasant tundra walking. There was still some snow in the Edwardian couloir and if I had crampons, I would have climbed it that way instead

This route would be much shorter in the summer... Not-so-great weather, so I didn't tag Argentine.

Grays, Edwards, McClellan, Ganley
Long ride. Descent from this ridge route into Stevens Gulch is sketchy and unrealistic, so watch the weather. After Ganley summit, I followed the ridge west awhile until I could descend the steep slopes (to the road to Grays lot), which are intermittently cliffed out. Grays, Edwards, McClellan, Ganley, IPA.
11-1-14: Edwards, Grays and Torreys together from Stevens Gulch trailhead solo. Road open and clear (might change with snow in the forecast!). Lower trail dry, but snow packed up higher, traction can come in handy.
3-6-16: Edwards via West Ridge from winter closure at I-70 with Rachael. Didn't even need snowshoes, well packed out approach trail and then 90% dry on the ridge.

Argentine to Edwards to Grays
Up at 4, trailhead at 7. This is a rarely traveled straight forward classic, last done when I was 52, 72 today, with Kevin, 22. Spectacular sunrise and autumn golds, but, alas, no goats today. Photo ops 4+. Not more than 15 souls on Grays, inc a doobie crew of 5. 8 hr, 45 min rt. ... within the average, apparently. 5-hour energy drink for a fully alert drive home. :) !
Started up at 8:30am, hiked the jeep trail up to Argentine Pass then along the divide to an empty summit at 10:40. Back down to the truck at 12:30pm. Gorgeous day! My first alpine summit of 2014, sweet!
With McClellan. Must've been 50 people on Grays. Just me and a goat on Edwards.

My wife and I headed over after climbing Argentine. We thought the views were good from Argentine, but really enjoyed them from the summit. We were glad to be off Grays and Torreys, as there were crowds of people on the trail and summits.

Still a lot of snow.
This was a great trip. Started at Naylor Lake, hiked up to the ridge to the Squaretop, Argentine, then continued a very loong ridge to Edwards, went back to Argentine and finished on Wilcox. It got dark when I got back to the forest around Naylor Lake and there was mess of fallen trees and deep snow. Lots of postholing!!
