Grind up the steeper Elbert Trail
WOW! All I have to say, being from South Florida. We made it successfully, after the grinding North Elbert Trail. That's the shorter, steeper side. Started at sunrise, and made it about 4 hours later, to a crowd of 30 people on top. It was tough, as I was exhausted, and my feet were throbbing. Again, it was spectacular to be above tree line for so long. The feeling was so rewarding at the summit! I loved CO's tallest peak!
It's an exciting thing to be able to click the "successful" box on this one. An absolutely perfect day. Not too hot, not cold, just a very slight cool breeze at the top, and stunning, perfect views in all directions. My first Fourteener since Shasta in 1996.
plenty of people, but a fun hike. Pretty easy depending on what route you take. Not very cloudy.

South Trail- Steeper than it looks
I was looking forward to this summit, because everywhere you read, it looks like it's one of the easier state highpoints. It was much steeper than I had anticipated. I should have conditioned before attempting. None the less, good peak, great feeling, knowing that we climbed up past 14K feet. Great view from the top. Highpoint #4 for me!

Box Creek Coulior
Ascended the East ridge and then cut over ~12,600 feet to the small lake and decided to take the steepest and furthest north coulior. It was pretty fun and felt like over 50 degrees in steepness towards the top. Then continued to slog in by then softening snow to the top. Clear day with an excellent glissade back to the lake on one of the shallower couliors.

Views were great but snow slog and subzero wind chill made the hike less enjoyable than it should have been.

Climbed this on a quick trip home to Colorado after being marooned in Greenland's snow and ice for 6 months. This left me way out of shape and the trek to the top was exhausting. My friends Dave and EJ kept berating me to keep up. Made it to the crowded summit and came down in record time.

Straight Up!
It was a little fun (nervous!) driving the river crossing at night, but glad we did given the altitude and hike it took off the climb.
