Route: NE Ridge

Summit Time: 10:21 am
Time on Summit: 1 hour
Return Time: 3:30 pm
Total Time: ~10 Hours

1st Colorado 14'er; 2nd HP
Climbed via the North Mount Elbert Trail on September 9th, 2002. My second state highpoint. Unfortunately, a light drizzle greeted me at timberline and accompanied me to the summit. Visibility on the summit was limited to approximately 50'. Quite the workout for a "flatlander" like myself.
Climbed with my two youngest sons, ages 9 yr 1 mo, and 5 yr 11 mo. The only assistance to the youngest was to carry his camelbak most of the way and hold his hand when the trail was wide enough:)
We beat the storm that moved in early with an early start. #2 6/24/13 Hiked Massive the day before and then tagged this one again.

Game changer
Successful, in more ways than one. Flew from NYC to Denver with a female friend, but returned with a girlfriend! Took the south trail. Stay at the cabins at the base. Easily one of the most challenging athletic events in my life (and I've run 4 NYC marathons).

Incredible! Beautiful my first 14'er! I almost gave up but ate fuel and pulled myself up by the boot straps and made it.

Southeast Ridge
Straight forward hike up the South trail. Obviously a popular summit as it was definitely crowded. Great views though!

Great Day!
This was my second 14er (I did Mt. Whitney a few years ago)--but even still, this was a huff! It was much steeper than I was anticipating, but the hardest part for me was the continuous false summits! Anndddd who am I kidding- the elevation was rough! Despite that, the feeling of accomplishment after summiting made it all worth while. The best part was that my boyfriend proposed on the summit :)
(#6 state high point to accomplish!)

pretty tough
I had a great time on the Elbert hike. we took the North Elbert trail which I thought was really tough! Especially coming from sea level. The views were amazing and we made it back to our campsite in about 8 hours. i'd say at least 50 high school cross country athletes passed us on the way up. but by stroke of luck, we shared the summit with only 3 other people! not bad for a Friday in August. Also, I proposed to my girlfriend at the top. For that reason, it will always be a special peak to me!
This was my first 14er and 25th HP. Half way to 50. We took the South Elbert trail up after sleeping at the TH overnight. Not exactly in the best shape but I made it up. Sure were a lot of people on the top.

NE Ridge
Made this a backpacking trip for my first 14er. Set up camp in a clear area off the North Mount Elbert Trail. Spent the night and woke up at 4:30AM to get a semi-alpine start. The weather held all weekend and was confortable with a a little layering. Once above treeline the altitude started slowing me down a bit, and the few false summits were a little disheartening. We made it to the summit around 12:00 PM. The descent was fun, and the views were incredible.

3rd SHP this summer, 1st 14'er
Took the South Trail route from the upper trailhead @ 10,400'. I came from sea level and spent three days acclimating and warming up before making the ascent. I may have set the record for slowest ascent (5:50) and R/T (10:03) but it was worth it. The weather held, partly cloudy, spectacular views at the summit and all the way up. Lots of people and dogs on the trail.

Went up Black Cloud trail. Took forever, I was super tired at the end. But I had been at sea level less than a week before.
