Great Hike  Sucess!

Got a later start than I wanted (7 o'clock) in the morning and I was not originally intending on going all the way to the summit. I was planning on just doing an acclimatization hike but I felt so good that I just kept going higher and higher. I was lacking food but I just kept going and going. The false summits were tough but the summit came pretty quickly (3 hours to the top from the trail head). I got a head ache but I made it. What a wonderful day!

Elbert  Sucess!

Did this today with a buddy of mine visiting from out of state. Think the gentle giant was a shock for him

Highpoint #9  Sucess!

Via the Northeast-Ridge. The weather was beautiful. A lot of people climbing that day. Stayed in Leadville the night before.

via North Mt Elbert Trail  Sucess!

I lived in Leadville at the time, I remember being very excited and happy to go to the mountains. It was so beautiful, snow on top and a few others were coming down when I summited on clear sunny day with my dog Dakota.

Snowy summit  Sucess!

Was the last peak of a three western state highpoint trip for me and capped a super enjoyable week of hiking and rambling for me.

After staying one night in Leadville, I took the Colorado Trail/North Mount Elbert trail approach. About a 9 mile round trip and I was a little sluggish by this point in the trip. Probably took about four hours to cover the distance from trailhead to summit if memory serves me correctly.

Anyway, a spectacular day on top of Colorado. Got to enjoy some early fall colors before continuing upwards into the snow above 13K feet. Views as far as the eye could see from the summit.

#9  Sucess!

So many people on this one. Just glad my FWD Rav4 could make it all the way to the end of the 4WD East Ridge TH.

Mountain to Myself  Sucess!

Great hike on the way up - super cold on the ridge! Saw no one on my way up, had the summit to myself for the 45 minutes I was up there!

HP #1 of 4 on this trip  Sucess!

Drove all night from Grantsville, UT. Got to the trailhead at 2:00am. Slept in back of my van. Woke up at 6:30 am to a full parking lot. Passed quite a few people on the way to the top. Best part of hike was leapfrogging two girls in giraffe onsies. They also brought an entire watermelon to share with everyone at the summit. Beautiful day for topping out on the highest point in Colorado. This was highpoint 18? for me?

My 5th State High Point  Sucess!

An enjoyable though not easy hike from the North Elbert trailhead. Nice views of Mt Massive (a far more impressive looking, if somewhat shorter, summit) and other mountains to the east and north. Very windy on top. Got back to the tree-line just as we heard the first clap of thunder. The 5th state high point I've hiked after California, Nevada, Virginia and New Mexico.

my first fourteener...  Sucess!

via standard North Elbert TH (trail 1484). I have neglected Colorado, but no more - what a beautiful state to visit! With my friend Paul - we started 07:00, summited 10:40. Weather was fine but distant views were obscured by smoke from various western wildfires. We descended along Black Cloud route to point 13963 - which in my home state would deserve a name. We retreated the way we came - so, in effect we summited TWICE in the same day.

North Mt. Elbert Trail  Sucess!

My wife and I used the North Mount Elbert Trail. We were surprised by the fresh snow up top in August. Great trail the whole way!

Mount Elbert roundtour (South Trail - North Trail)  Sucess!

We've planned to run Mt Elbert from the South Elbert Trailhead by the South Trail. Because of the alltitude we've hiked to the summit. Descended the North trail and took the Colorado Trail to get back to the South Elbert Trailhead. A great roundtrip.

Tom Petty  Sucess!

Great hike with wife Amy, loosely following the snowy South Elbert Trail. Perhaps one of the most gorgeous days in the mountains in a long time. Caught Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers at Red Rocks on our way home. Awesome.

Quick Trip  Sucess!

Made a quick trip into Colorado. 8 hours of driving, 4 hours of sleep, 10 hours of climbing, with another 8 hours of driving. Did this one with a 45lb pack on my back. The many false summits toward the end were definitely brutal.
