Took me 2 hours on the East ridge route. It was a zoo on top, people everywhere.

Took the CEO of the company I work for and his wife up. My second trip up. It was a big day for them. I was able to score a leave of absence to do Everest partly as a result of this.

East Ridge
Climbed from the 4WD Trailhead - only one on the mountain as far as I could tell! The snow in the trees was awful so I ended up following a snow-free gully until I could find a relatively clear way to the ridge. The snow above treeline was fantastic and made me wish I'd brought my skis - brought crampons & ice axe instead. Snowshoes would've been a waste of time. Weather was great, albeit a little cold and windy on top. 3hrs 20min up, 2hrs down.

Nice, HIGH walk up!
Despite some rainy weather, My son Lance, age 10, and my other son Travis, age 8, made it with me to the roof of Colorado via the South Mount Elbert Trail #1481. We had spent the previous night in Leadville which really helped us acclimatize I believe.

There was snow above the first false summit. The weather was great, and there were a TON of people on this trail. It looked like ants on the mountain from the summit.

South Elbert Route
For being the highest mountain after Mt. Whitney in the lower 48 states, I was surprised by how easy Mt. Elbert turned out to be(bottom to top and back in 4 hours, with the help of a 4WD road that let us park at 11,000 feet). La Plata is quite impressive when viewed from the summit, but overall the mountains in the area seemed more like big hills.
