via Bierstadt and Sawtooth Ridge  Sucess!

Really nice route from Mount Bierstadt and over the Sawtooth. Not very crowded, perfect weather!

Sawtooth tour  Sucess!

I reached Evans`s summit after bagging Bierstadt from Guanella Pass then scrambling the connecting sawtooth ridge. Descended via the steep gully then through the willow infested marshy terrain. This was a fun day that had started with a moose sighting near the Pass. This was peak #12 on day 9 of my 13 day trip.

2nd of 4  Sucess!

By way of Bierstadt and Sawtooth (fun but a workout). Descending the Gully to Scott Gomer Basin was a pretty good workout also! Overall a great day.
Hiked it with 19 other men from Christ Church Plano, most of whom summitted Bierstadt and 9 of whom bagged Evans. (2 had to hitch a ride down due to injury and lateness in the day.) Grays/Torreys two days later.

Ascent from Guanella Pass  Sucess!

Began our climb at 7:30am on the crowded Bierstadt trail, cutting off at the first left pass the creek. After getting muddy in marshland, we came to a lovely secluded cliff waterfall and then hiked up the gully to the left of Sawtooth. At the top we climbed straight up over rugged boulders, seeing mountain goats. After eating lunch on a false summit at 11am, we cut down to a trail on the south side and met a bunch of tourists on the summit at noon, who asked us "real climbers" to pose for a picture on the rocks for them. Beautiful route with the false summit and top of Sawtooth exceeding the actual summit.

Mt. Evans Road  Sucess!

The short walk to the top from the parking lot was the best choice for our non-hiker in-laws from Texas.

from mt Bierstadt  Sucess!

Good panoramic views from this peak, kinda surreal to be hiking all day on the Sawtooth ridge and come up, around mt Spalding, to a visitor's parking lot and summit walk up. We were still 3.5hrs from our car at Guenella pass trailhead and it's tempting to descend any number of trails or road here. (It would be like 50 miles away!) Had a way-late summit at 4pm but no t-storms and a nice long June evening with a venus transit in the sky! (fyi: 3% less brightness)

Evans, via Sawtooth  Sucess!

Ascended via Sawtooth and descended via West Gully to Guanella Pass with EricD. Windy most of the time, but that's to be expected. Rain clouds built up and then passed us. The sun and wildlife came out for our descent, and we made it back to trailhead just before sunset, about 3.5 hours descent with lots of MUD in the willows. Trail was easy to follow with limited route-finding as long as you know the general direction to go in. Fantastic views.

Re: Via Sawtooth

Hi Psyco Bill: Did you have to use any technical equipment or snowshoes when you did this about a month ago? There must have been a good amount of snow up there. Thanks.

Fun scramble with almost zero approach. Favorite route on the mountain is still via Chicago Lakes Trail.

Sawtooth Cirque  Sucess!

Bierstadt across the Sawtooth to Evans and down the East Ridge to a dicey creek jump and swamp walk across the willows. Great day. West Evans looks like a good ski route and I wonder what the technical opportunities are up the sawtooth from the base?

Echo Lake trail  Sucess!

Beautiful day so despite a late start (728 AM) and a somewhat slow pace (just over 5 hours to the summit) the view from the top was stunning. A female marathoner recently moved from PA passed me on the way up like I was standing still but I managed to pass everyone else I met on the trail. On the way down two hikers shared a laugh with me about the four wheel drive road on the west slope of Blanca Peak. The road down Evans might wind and turn but it made for a nice descent back to Summit Lake for a change before descending down to Chicago Lakes. Great hike!

With a broken leg...  Sucess!

Ok so I rode up, but I did crutch up the last bit, and made the trip with my crutches strapped to my motorcycle.

Yeah, I drove  Sucess!

Needed a break from school, so drove to the trailhead with a friend who also had the day off. First CO 14'er for me, albeit I wouldn't say I climbed it. 90 in Denver, 32 (windchill) at summit. Apparently car manufacturers take new model cars up to the parking lot at the summit to test how the brakes perform at altitude (they go as high as they can, I guess), so saw some test drives and unreleased cars. A nice trip, only took a few hours.
