From Echo Lake  Sucess!

Got up early, left the Echo Lake trailhead around 5 am. Summitted around 10 or so, considered doing the sawtooth as well but ended up walking down the road since it was closed to vehicles to get back to the trail. That walk from Upper Chicago Lake to Summit Lake was something else

Sawtooth  Sucess!

Climbed Bierstadt to Sawtooth over to Evans. Second time up Bierstadt, which is a total sh** show, of course. Sawtooth was much easier than expected, barely class 3 but has some exposure crossing a broad ledge/ramp. Got hopelessly lost in the willows on the descent, despite our best efforts.

Summit Lake via Spalding  Sucess!

Descended into the valley as to get 3,000' of elevation gain to the top. Easy route finding from the parking lot, over Spalding, and then to the false summit. After that, you have to pay attention to the route. Cold morning with clouds rolling by above 13,800'. That meant there was some icy rock and after a slip or two, I decided to just descend the Evans road back to Summit Lake.

From Summit Lake  Sucess!

Lots of mountain goats and rams - mostly rams - at the trailhead when I returned.

Easy route  Sucess!

This is the highest point that my mom and I have both been to. She's a non-hiker in her 60s, so we took the easy route and did the short quarter mile hike to the top. It was also nice to drive on the highest paved road in North America and see the mountain goats along the way.

First Mount Evans Summit  Sucess!

Started at the summit parking lot. Easy hike, .3 miles up, .3 miles down. Very little elevation gain, all switchbacks on a marked trail. The only difficulty was altitude. Beautiful views from the peak.

My Evans and Bierstadt climb  Sucess!

I did Evans via the sawtooth ridge. Tiring! Got caught in a small storm on the way down. The gully into the willows is steep. The meadows weren’t terrible, but their were still places where I had to walk in mud. Total distance for me hiking Bierstadt and Evans via sawtooth was 12.1 miles round trip.

From Echo Lake To The Summit w/ Xavier  Sucess!

Part backpacking part 14er. This was a great route and even better for a first time backpacking trip for Xavier. We hiked from Echo Lake to Upper Chicago Lake on Saturday, camped and summited on Sunday. A little hazy on Saturday from the Pine Gulch, Grizzly Creek, Cameron Peak, & Williams Fork fires. On Sunday morning however, it was like walking through a campfire from Upper Chicago Lake to Summit Lake. Great day out and Xavier seemed to enjoy the backpacking and the summit. It'd be great if Evans was closed to cars every year.

Evans Bike  Sucess!

Hardest bike ever - 5 hours for 55 miles with 7K of vertical gain. So beautiful though!

Bierstadt and Evans via Sawtooth  Sucess!

5:18 Added about a half mile by accidentally going towards Spaulding for a bit. Was very boggy and wet in the meadows below the Sawtooth gully, impossible to keep the feet dry. Pretty windy at Evans but awesome conditions!

North Ridge  Sucess!

Did the entire Evans/Spaulding cirque traverse by first climbing the North Ridge of Evans. We climbed mostly on the ridge and enjoyed many class 3 sections including the east summit. Weather was bitter cold and VERY windy. Climbed with ndriley.

With the Fam  Sucess!

Did the long drive and hiked up with the fam at Sunset. Only a few people on the summit watching the sunset. Mountain Goats everywhere...at our car on the way up to the summit.

Evening Hike  Sucess!

From the lake hit Mt. Spaulding on the way up. Pretty with lots of wildlife.
Summit block was a little unclear and I ended up hiking up 3 different ones to make certain I was on top.

Fun Hike  Sucess!

Hiked up Bierstadt and then went to Mt. Evans via the Sawtooth Ridge. Sawtooth Ridge was terrifying. Ended up getting terrible altitude sickness and unfortunately didn't get to enjoy it as much as I would have wanted. Would definitely recommend though.

From Echo Lake  Sucess!

Beautiful morning climb. We slept in our car overnight at the Echo Lake Picnic Area. We were on the trail by 4:45 a.m. We only had to use our headlamps down to the road as the sky brightened quickly. We saw only one person in the Chicago Lakes Basin. Summited Spalding then continued on to the crowded summit of Evans. It could have been a lot worse considering it is the day before the 4th. Luckily, we hitchiked down with a nice couple since we didn't feel like going all the way back down when a road connects to the top.
