James and I took turns hiking Evans/watching the baby from Summit Lake since we have a 6-month-old who can't quite go to that elevation yet. Shortest ascent of a 14er I've ever done, but didn't feel too much like I was cheating because of the steepness of the trail toward to top. It was a little bit demoralizing to top out at a parking lot, though. Beautiful mountain and scenery nonetheless.
On the way home through Colorado, stopped up at the top, caught the sunrise with 1 other party, then took a nap in the car. Woke up to find the place had turned into a mall.
Finally finished the Front Range after climbing Bierstadt for the second time and crossing the Sawtooth.
Had avoided it because of the people/road, but was actually a fun climb!
Hiked from Echo Lake including a couple of miles on the road. Didn't thumb a ride though :-)
Marni, Turbo and I had to do this one on foot since bikes and cars don't count by our rules. Lots of fun, the willows really weren't that bad.
Had to actually climb it to make it legit.
Nice, easy hike to Mt. Spalding and over the ridge to Evans. I only wish that the summit could have been a little bit less crowded with tourists, but that's just how it is, I guess, with Mt. Evans. Very beautiful day for a hike, but also very windy on top!
My third time on top with my sister and brother in law. I am always amazed at how the altitude affects you more when you drive to the top as opposed to climbing to 14,000 feet in one day.
bierstadt to evans via the sawtooth, fun route.
Climbed the boulders on the Northeast ridge from Summit Lake. Lots of fun: i needed a day like this after a rough day on Bierstadt the day before.
From summit lake with my mom! Great day!
What a long, tiring adventure.
I first climbed Mt Evans on an unrecorded date in 1983. This was my 14th time summiting Evans. Some of the climbs were in combination with Bierstadt via the Sawtooth. Other climbs were in combination with Spalding from Summit Lake. This time was from Guanella Pass skirting Bierstadt.
Excellent short climb to start the season. Very interesting mixed climbing near the top of the narrow colliour.
A repeat climb, this time via the Crystal couloir, which was surprisingly firm on a warm day. Started from Echo Lake so that Jim could get his 3K vertical and followed the road to Summit Lake, cutting a couple switchbacks. Added West Evans, Warren, Rogers, and Goliath on the way down. Fine glissade down the north face!
16 miles roundtrip, climbed Evans (repeat climb) via the NE face, then Warren (13er), Rogers (13er), and Goliath (12er). Twas a bluebird day and I felt great!!
Got a bit out of breath around the summit. I was surprised at the quality of summit views.
From Bierstadt and Sawtooth Ridge.
Scrambled up the steep slopes above Summit Lake. Have hiked the road (when closed by weather) several times. My daughter's first 14-er. (I carried her in a back pack!)
