Via Sawtooth Ridge from Bierstadt
Easy hike from Sawtooth Ridge IF you can find the cairns that mark the trail. Also fun part, I had to wait in one of the bathrooms for an hour to stay warm and dry as I waited for a storm to pass.
Trail run to Mt. Evans from Summit Lake over Spalding and back down. Moved well and did it in 3.5 hours. Awesome views and fun scrambling. I might have a new favorite!
Did this one up from Summit Lake after sleeping in my brother's SUV there. Hail and rain storm the afternoon before. Did Spalding and Warren afterwards. Not sure why but I signed the summitlog for this page in 2002 and somehow my entry got deleted.
From summit lake via the Second Apron with Doug, Duc, Nick, Mandi, and Bryce. Amazing though somewhat sketchy alpine slab. Hitch-hiked down.
Climbed up from Summit Lake, over Spalding and to the summit. Very busy on the mountain today, lots of hikers and full parking lots. Weather was great: sunny, not too windy, not too hot, not too cold. There was a flock of sheep hanging out by Summit Lake. After Evans, I headed over to Gray Wolf. This was my 2nd time on Evans.
Came around Mt Spalding from Summit Lake TH. Nice / shorter hike. Great wildlife with both goats and sheep families everywhere.
From Spalding via Summit Lake. Fun trek/scramble up and around from Spalding over to Evans. Was in a hurry due to schedule and trying to catch my plane back home that afternoon. Ran out of time and had to catch a ride back down from the top of Evans. Not proud of it..
The road was still closed so I had the summit to myself.
Started around 6AM. Entire lot was filled by 6:30. Easy climb to Bierstadt. Sawtooth ridge had a little snow, but nothing to make the route technical. Evans was a little breezy. Descent was the worst part. Gully was hard to find, BUT there is a route down it. Bushwacking was horrible. Entire area was muddy from melting snow. More than ankle deep all the way back to regular trail. Back at car around 3:15PM.
Does driving to the top count????
Lousy trail once we got over from Sawtooth due to snow and ice. Not a fan of the summit either.
Long hike and very crowded at the top due to the drivers.
Climbed on the way back from Mount Bierstadt, after coming across the Sawtooth we popped on over to Evans. Lots of other 'climbers' there the day we went, very crowded.
Ok, I drove up, I'm not proud, but I did reach the summit.
Drove.. Took the GF. Kissed at the top :)
I drove up the Mt Evans scenic road off I70 to where it was closed; this is normally where you would pay to go to top. I parked (plenty of spots) and then hiked up 15 miles to the summit (30 miles total). Round trip was 10 hours (6 up, 4 down). Great hike. Did it in standard hiking shoes. A lot of snow on the road but only difficult to cross in 3 or 4 places where there were drifts. Saw a group of big horn sheep midway. Great way to get up there in the winter with basic gear. Finished in dark with small flashlight, but you cannot get lost.
Fun, easy scramble with some adventurous weather thrown in!
