The sawtooth rocks.
I absolute loved the Sawtooth, very high on the fun meter. I got a laugh the fat guy in North Face gear that “climbed” from the parking lot. Lots of Mountain Goats in the area. Part of a 10 day 18 14,000 ft. summit solo climbing trip.
With Torreys. Gorgeous day. Felt like home. Lots of wildflowers!
Awesome hike: hitched a ride down via Mount Evans road due to severe weather.
Hiked up & down in a snowstorm.
Loved the Sawtooth, long walk back through the reeds trying to beat the incoming weather.
Awesome view. Pretty easy. I hate all the bastards that drive up it.
Our first 14er! With husband and sister. We had only been living in Colorado for a few weeks at this point. Went around summit ridge from Summit Lake and descended NE face. I guess I have to go back and climb this one the "real" way one of these days, since this is only about 1,800 vert.
Hiked with a group via Echo Lake on a plesant late August day, most of them had a few too many beers the night before to get up early, but a few of us enjoyed the beautiful hike and descended via one of the class three variations for some added fun.
I parked at Summit lake and walked around the lake to the other side. I found a couloir almost half way between Evans and Spalding, closer to Evans and climbed up that and gained the ridge probably 300-400 meters away from Evans. It was my first experience in a couloir (other than the trough-which I was quite used to). very windy on top.
Came straight down the east slope and picked up the road. Not too many people
This was my 4th 14er and the most fun one yet. Ran into goats close to Spaulding summit. Fun talus hike on West side of Evans as you climb SE to summit.
Included Spalding. A nice walk in the winter with no one else in sight.
The Sawtooth is way more fun than driving :)
A very long haul with deep powder snow in the gullies. Verglass made the upper ridge very very painful. This was a brusing snow climb.
Combo day, did this in conjunction with Mount Bierstadt, just because it was convenient to do both of them at the same time. Great view but people with cars make this a little too accessible for my taste. I hate crowds on the summit.
Thunderstorms on the summit. See the story here: http://distantpeak.com/web/mountains/n-america/mount_evans
This was a rest day, so we picked the easy way up... left the truck at echo and got just enough elevation to call it official.
Got married on time just after sunrise.
I've done this numerous times. First time to the summit was riding from Evergreen (Bergan Park) to the parking lot, then hiking with sandals the rest of the way. Since then I've never done the last hike to the top again, but had ridden the road for 4 years running. I hit 50mph every time heading down.
Well, we started at Guanella Pass and went toooo far left. Ended up summiting Spaulding, then heading to Evans. Made for a nice looong hike! But we got to bag 2 peaks! And it was a beautiful day. Bierstadt even had a dusting of snow.
