Eric

The forest service road to get to the "trailhead" is much worse than anticipated. While not very far, it is one of the worse I've ever traveled. It's littered with heavy and jagged rocks. I definitely do not recommend taking your brand new 4WD drive vehicle to get there. Also, it's very narrow which makes for the passing of opposing traffic impossible in some spots. The "trailhead" is not traditional in anyway. No designated parking area, no facilities whatsoever. In fact, if you aren't paying attention...you will miss the small sign designating the trail. Nevertheless, these characteristics, in my opinion, make for fewer people and a great wilderness experience overall. On this day, there was not a single other human being anywhere in site, which makes it well worth the troubles of getting to the trail. Weather for early September (after an epically hot summer) was a mix of everything. Literally, heavy rain and wind at the base, overcast and cold mid-hike, and heavy snow and complete obscuration higher up. Followed by, sun and warmth on the way down. A couple more items: I took my 12 and 14 year old boys and they had a great time. Challenging enough to make them exhausted at the end of the day and acquire a sense of accomplishment, but not so difficult as to be impossible (they both have some experience) You might be frustrated enough in negotiating the access road to want to turn around. There aren't many chances to do this once you start the ascent-the road is that narrow. Just keep pressing on slowly, you won't be disappointed.

steep  Sucess!

lots of locals out on the mountain. This is a pretty steep hike with some risk of rockfall when approaching the col. The summit block does have a couple of exposed areas and it probably merits a class 3 rating for the scrambling. Great views and a very fun day up in Canada.

Fun hike/scramble  Sucess!

The crux of the day is finding the right logging road to access the trailhead. Rough road for 8 km makes the start of the steep hike. A short steep hike takes one to a beautiful sub-alpine valley and onto a steep col. Great scenery once above tree line. Mostly an easy slog to the summit, with one or two hands on and exposed scramble section just below the pointed summit. We had limited views, but did get a sneak a peek at the impressive Mt. Washburn, high on my list now.

Good choice for a day of very unstable weather. Great to bag this beautiful little peak, fun day out with Steven S.

Normal Route  Sucess!

Ever since I moved to Kimberley, Mount Fisher has been calling to me every time I looked east! A sunny and hot Saturday at the end of June provided the opportunity to head up this landmark of the east Kootenays. It is a great day to be spent. A beautiful hike through forest, by streams, a waterfall, and tarns followed by some interesting scrambling with incredible views of the surrounding area. It was awesome... a must do in the Kootenays!
