Good hike up with a friend. A bit confusing to find initially. HP #3.

3rd SHP  Sucess!

This was a nice little climb to the top of Round Mountain and Mt. Frissell and on to the three state marker. Very few people on the trails. The views were beautiful and trails well marked.

Cold, wet...and all to myself.  Sucess!

I don't know why everyone is fussing over finding some cairn below the summit, all I wanted to do was hike to the top of one of Massachusetts' more beautiful southwestern summits. ;-)

It had been raining a good portion of the day by the time I arrived after summiting Greylock earlier in the day. This rain did not let up for the entire 2 hours I was on the trail, but it also kept away any other visitors. The solitude was a pleasant surprise.

The steeper portions can get a little dicey when wet but should not be a big problem for experienced hikers.

Not much in terms of views thanks to the cloud cover and dense foliage, but I don't mind -- it was great time in the wilderness. (Always is.)

Close encounters..  Sucess!

.. of the bear kind. In all the times I've hiked & camped in 'bear Country' - 1st time I came up on one in the brush as the side of the trail. Scared the crap outta me... fortunately - he (?) was more scared than I... as he took off into the brush.. and I (warily) proceedeed to exit.. stage left!

Highpoint #2  Sucess!

The top was gorgeous. There was some snow and it was snowing lightly. We visited the highpoint and the summit. At the summit we signed and looked through the log book. It was an awesome day!

HP #15  Sucess!

Screwed this one up trying to hit the high point just before dark. Went to the top of Frissell, had a bad feeling about it being the actual high point (I thought the HP was between Frissell and Round Mtn, not past Frissell), but couldn't find the real marker. Went back to civilization, got on SP and realized my mistake. Went back up and found the real summit in the dark :P 35 to go!

SHP #10  Sucess!

There were a couple of parts of the trail where I had to use my hands. I thought that I might not find the HP, but I just kept doing and I eventually found it. The trail is not well marked past the summit.

HP # 25  Sucess!

Climbed on a 96 degree CT day, which was fairly brutal. Somehow I brought Texas weather with me. Pretty place though, view from the High Point reminded me a little of Magazine Mountain in Arkansas. The trail was a little steeper than I had imagined too.

7th State HP and Solitude  Sucess!

Took the standard route coming over Round Mountain. Very pleasant hike with nice views, and I was lucky enough to enjoy both Round and Frissell in complete solitude.

Really Wet  Sucess!

Bob, Broc, Domino and I made it to the top, swimming part of the way. Fun to see the marker designating three states. Hiked past a beautiful bird nest resting quietly in the bushes.

4th highpoint  Sucess!

This is my home state so I was very excited to climb this highpoint, as everyone is aware, the actual marker can be a little tricky to locate, but my buddy and I finally did. Nice views of Bear Mountain, which some people think is the state highpoint but it's not.

Sun and Snow  Sucess!

On a cold but sunny day, I scrambled over the snow covered rocks of Round Mountain and Mount Frissell to reach the Connecticut highpoint. I saw no one and the only other tracks in the snow were those of a dog, or maybe a coyote. HP32

Numero Uno!  Sucess!

First state high point! All of the wet leaves covering the rocks made the climb a little treacherous, but a nice, short hike regardless.

Frissell on a Saturday  Sucess!

State High Point number 3. Really short hike, two very steep sections, which were fun with the exception of the wet leaves. Those weren't so cool. A little hard to find the exact trail.. just go slow and find the red blazes on the opposite side of the AMC parking lot. very short hike though! literally took two hours round trip, and i took my sweet time.

Standard Trail  Sucess!

I hiked the standard trail from the CT/MA border to the east. Rocks were slick with rain and wet leaves.
