This is one of the easiest peaks I climbed in the Sierras. So, strangely enough, it is also the one that took the most number of attempts to get to the top! Scared off by weather one time and altitude sickness in our party the second time. But the third time was a charm .. fun climb, even though it's a slog. This is a great conditioner climb.
Second stop on a Dragon-Gould-Rixford dayhike with Bob and Michael. Summit block was a short but interesting scramble.
Day 8 of the 2004 Sierra Challenge, twelve of us started out from Onion Valley, eight made it to the summit of Dragon, ten to the summit of Gould, and three to the summit of Rixford. Safe to say, we pretty much covered the area that day. Trip Report
Easy climb to the top. We avoided the annoying class 1 slog by climbing the class 2 talus along the ridge. Made things a little more interesting by climbing some of the larger blocks just for fun. To reach the summit you can either climb the easy class 3 along the ridge or the easy class 4 on the west face. We chose the east face because of some potentially unstable rock on the ridge.
Side trip on our way out from Charlotte lake. 40 min. to summit from the pass. The summit blocks are short but fun to climb on.
Easy climb from Kearsarge Pass. Fun summit blocks.
Climbed this with my Dad and Sister. Soloed over to Dragon. Then did Kearsarge the next day.
Did this as a dayhike. Considerable snow about a mile up from Onion Vly TH but firm and fun. Didn't need the axe and crampons until 200m from the summit. Car to car in 5.5hr. Nice, easy acclimation dayhike.
Day hike from Onion Valley campground with Chuck. Spent a total of an hour and a half on Kearsarge pass chatting with a good looking ranger and other hikers. This was to be the first in a series of strange meetings with Lars and Tats. Good times.
The best way to climb this is on a traverse from Dragon Peak. Great day hike!
A bit of a slog from the pass, but it has a nice summit block.
Climbed from Kearsarge Pass with my sister, her second Sierra peak after Whitney.
Climbed this as a day hike. Left the car at noon and returned around 7pm.
Easy climb from Kearsarge Pass. Nice scree run off the summit to the west.
Climed on a beautiful summit day, after a grueling ascent on Nameless Pyramid the day before.
Summited with poor weather and very low visibility. Without a map I got lost, and thought I might actually be on Dragon Peak. Afterwards I tried to go climb Dragon Peak but got lost again. Decided to quit with two strikes and headed down before the thunderstorms broke in earnest. Trip Report
A easy scramble from the pass.
