Horn Fork Basin, summer & winter  Sucess!

8/22/04 - Standard route through Horn Fork Basin, a very beautiful place. Also climbed Columbia which made for a very long day.

1/2/10 - Backpacked 7 miles to treeline in Horn Fork Basin and climbed Harvard the following day. Nasty blowing snow and low visibility near summit.

North Cottonwood TH  Sucess!

Solo hike and 10th 14er for me. Great weather, but a long 12 hour day due to 50 yr. old knees! Trail was excellent as was the view of Mt. Yale. Summit was very small.

I like it on top

Frenchman Creek TH  Sucess!

Weather played a factor. Wind all day, low cloud ceiling made navigating interesting. Made the summit and headed down to better weather. Adventurous.

Not Donald Trump....  Sucess!

So nice to hear "the girls definitely trumped us today". Love you James Hay. Long day to do both. But great hiking and fabulous panoramic views.

Long But Worth It  Sucess!

We set out to do Harvard and Columbia in one long push, but saw lightning in close proximity to us about 50 feet from Harvard's summit. After dropping our packs and hurriedly scrambling the last few feet of awesome class 3 rocks, we snapped a couple shots and scampered back down. Great mountain, but waaaayyyy out there. Be forewarned, the Harvard/Columbia route would have been an extremely grueling jaunt, so I would highly recommend an overnighter...beautiful alpine campsites abound.

Long ago, solo. My decrepit Camry cursed me for taking that road...

Inspite of the weather and hangovers we made it to the saddle at 13.4k. We let the weather be our guide on this one and detemined that it wasn't safe to continue to the summit. :-(

From Pine Creek  Sucess!

Camped near Little John's cabin and climbed the Northeast ridge on a windy Sunday morning. Fording Pine Creek was an experience with spring runoff.

Horn Fork Basin

Spent two nights in the Horn Fork Basin... long and lazy approach. Summitted by 10am with bluebird skies. Spent an hour on top enjoying the beautiful view!

Harvard - Columbia Traverse  Sucess!

Did a bivy at the foot of Harvard the night before. A young marmot came right into camp and tried to steal my sweaty T-shirt. He made for good company. A fun climb and traverse.

hasue - Feb 12, 2008 11:56 am Date Climbed: Aug 15, 2004

yep did it

Hiked into Horn Fork basin early and decided to go for the summit due to such nice weather. Long hike up to the top and returned to camp at dusk.

Third Time  Sucess!

This was my third time climbing Harvard. The weather didn't look good enough to go for Columbia.
