The summit was very, very windy, but then so was Baldy, which is why Mark J and I chose to go here instead. Interestingly enough, almost immediately after descending only 5-10 vertical feet from the summit toward Devil's Backbone, the wind stopped.
Up Harwood then up Baldy from the Backbone
harwood, baldy, w baldy; 12 miles and 4500' gain
Tagged several times on way back from Baldy via the Backbone. It's a cool summit with a nice view of Fish Fork and the north Baldy trail, but I have preferred to tag this with Baldy always and never as a stand alone hike. Be careful on the steep north facing slope of this mountain.
3rd time doing this loop and I finally went the extra bit to tag this summit.
Continued on to Harwood after getting over Baldy. No views from the top due to streaming clouds.
Very windy day
Tag the top on the way down from Baldy
Register Ridge to the Backbone Trail, then Harwood, Baldy, Dawson, Pine, and back.
Detour from the Devil's Backbone Trail after heading up the Ski Hut Trail and tagging Baldy...
A great winter snowclimb with Bryan. During the ascent we had to dodge huge potentially fatal ice bombs falling from the trees. On the summits, 45mph winds were whipping up major spindrift. We descended from the Antonio / Harwood saddle in a sudden white out and the slope turned out to be icy and sketchy. I fell twice and had to arrest with my axe. We should have brought crampons.
A film by Bryan:
Hiked to Mt. Harwood as part of my 11 peaks day hike.
several times over the years - mostly on the way to Baldy
Devil's backbone is wicked!
If I'm running late, I'll tag Harwood instead of Baldy before I go to work.
hiked up a couple of times while going up to Baldy
Many times. One of my favorite places on earth.
Steep trail! Tagged on the way to Baldy.
Hiked this with Baldy and West Baldy. Great day in the mountains!
