With meetup.com group. Also included South Mt. Hawkins, Middle Hawkins, Copter Ridge, & Mt. Islip.
Hiked up Hawkins as part of a 5 peak ridge traverse.
Smoggy day down low, clear up high . . . could see Sierra but not Pasadena
With Throop Peak and Copter Ridge. Lots of snow on north side of Throop. Beautiful clear day with views of Catalina and the Pacific.
After Throop Peak we traversed the ridge over to Mount Hawkins and then followed the trail back to Dawson Saddle.
Nice hike with my mom and dad. First time back in CA in two years.
Nice cool day up here when the av is in the hundreds. There is a lot of very nice forest in this area.
I once spent the night on top of Throop Peak. The next morning I hiked down to Mt Hawkins and then returned to Throop and the car at Dawson Saddle. I remember I really liked the view from Hawkins, it really did have a great Baldy view.
up from islip Saddle.
Very easy detour off our 2 day trek, 17 mile PCT segment heading south ending at Vincent Gap. Passed about 30 PCT through hikers.
Combined with Throop. Great day, great views. Passed a bunch of PCT'ers on the way.
Parked at Islip Saddle. A pleasant hike with awesome views from top.
Started from Islip Saddle passed Little Jimmy Campground then stopped at Windy Gap before proceeding to the summit. Summit vistas were sweet!
An eight peak day around Islip Saddle, cold in the morning but quite fine during the day. Trip Report
Checked it out while out on a training run on the PCT
Fourth in a 5-peak loop dayhike. Nice little peak.
Beautiful day... Lots of snow patches above 8K'. My friend Andrew and I stopped by on our way to Throop.
'Climbed' twice from islip Saddle, once hiking the PCT and another time while skiing along the ridge from Islip Sadde to Throop Peak. Nice views down the Hawkins Ridge.
Parked at Islip Saddle and hiked to Dawson Saddle. First, went up the 1/2 mile ridge to Mt. Lewis. Then crossed the highway and picked up the ridge trail to Throop Peak. Next was Mt. Hawkins. From there, we dropped down Hawkins' ridge 1300' to Copter Ridge and summited the peak located at 7,499' elevation. Then traversed (not recommended; way too steep) to a saddle just north of Middle Hawkins and summited that peak. Started back on the trail toward Islip Saddle and summited Islip Peak along the way. The day was a little warm but the views were great on all the peaks.
