beating the rush  Sucess!

Hiked in from the Garden. It's a fairly long approach and the last couple miles get steep. It didn't help that the trail has become a creek in many places. Wind on the summit was knocking me off my feet, but at least it was clear weather. I wanted to get a good hike in before the holiday weekend. A total success.

From Lake Colden via Marcy, 1994  Sucess!

Camped at Lake Colden for a week. Hiked from Lake Colden to 4 corners, and up Marcy in the fog. As we ate lunch on the summit a break in the clouds opened up and by the time lunch was over the sky was clear. We enjoyed a beautiful sunny afternoon as we traversed accross to Haystack, down through Panther Gorge, and back to Lake Colden. Long, hard day but definitely worth it.

Enjoyable Slog  Sucess!

Lots of peace and solitude trudging through the snow to bag this one.

Best Summit in ADK?  Sucess!

Likely the best pure summit cone, and definitely the longest walk out of any High Peak

From Slant Rock  Sucess!

Part of a solo trip from Slant Rock. Steady rain ruined any views. Hope to do it again in a couple of weeks!

Number 15 - "End" of a Long Day  Sucess!

This was the last stop on a long day hike, previously hitting UWJ, Armstrong, Gothics, Saddleback, and Basin.

I was joined on this adventure by Mr. Steve and Mr. Baio.

This was #15 for me.

Route Climbed: Slant Rock loop  Sucess!

Spent two nights at Peggy O'. 12 headed out for the summit (10 made it). Winds were extreme (50+ MPH). One guy had his glove blow off while traversing Little Haystack. Fun climb. One of the group finished his W46 on Haystack. Temps were warm so the wind chill was not too bad. Glad to have an ice axe with me today since I managed to forget my crampons. Views were awesome. Also hiked from Slant Rock in 1995 during the summer.

Mt.Haystack  Sucess!

Despite a very rainy summer in the ADK's,the weather for this trek was super!Haystack was mighty and valiant, but along this trek on this day I felt to like Basin Mt alot better. No doubt about it,it was nice, but I prefer to look at Haystack, rather than look from it.....Jim w

Great day, Mt. Marcy, Haystack, Saddleback and Basin from the Garden's parking lot. Stayed on the mountain and did the last 3 miles the next day.

Mount Haystack  Sucess!

Climbed with Basin and Saddleback via the Range Trail from the Garden. A long and difficult approach. The views from the top were as good as it gets. After spending about half an hour on the summit we continued along the range to avoid a rapidly approaching storm.

Whooo!  Sucess!

Yup, this baby is deep into the Dack's. Hiked from the Garden where the was only traces of snow. Camped near John's Brook Lodge and summited folowing day. Great hike and astounding summit. Certainly one of my personal fav's in the northeast. There was 6-8 inches of snow on the summit and we broke trail to the top, AWESOME!

From the Garden  Sucess!

What a great peak! Hiked with Paul and it was another wonderful weekend in the Adirondacks. Did Haystack along with Basin and Saddleback. It was the first time I had good, clear views off an Adirondack Peak. Spectacular!

Not the easiest place to get to

Enjoyed the summit after camping at Lake Tear, back in the days when it was still legal to do so.

PhelpsTrail up and down  Sucess!

Mt. Haystack is a beast that wants to devour you. Drain you. Waste you. This mountain sapped so much energy from me. Took a LONG time to summit and LONG time back. Makes me tired and exhausted now just thinking about it.

Never a view  Sucess!

Climbed with my brother Bob in rain and wind. So windy at times we crawled. There were very limited views as we were in clouds and bad weather. Occasionally clouds would clear and you would see the clouds swirl around the "basin" between Basin and Haystack
