Last of Three for the day.  Sucess!

All the clouds had cleared out by the time I had made it to the summit, which afforded great views all around. A nice walk up from Dawson Pass to end the day after having climbed Flinsch and Rising Wolf.

Goats and Wind  Sucess!

May not be the exact date. Did this one and Flinsch and Morgan and the whole loop (22 miles? Or about that counting the peaks) Windy and cold and bright and brilliant. A herd of goats was living on the peak and I met some scouts on the goat trail over to Morgan. Grab it while you grab Flinsch, unless you are also doing Rising Wolf. All 3 are reasonable, but probably not to do the whole loop then also in one day. Camping is a great idea. Bear sign, a goat herd, and oh that wind. Will add some pics to this gallery soon.

Windy as hell

Very long day. Lots of bugs in the valley and hot. Dawson Pass had intense winds.

Dawson-Pitamakin  Sucess!

July 2004
Had a buddy come into town so I took him here. From Dawson Pass, this excursion seemed worthwhile and of course, it was.

via Dawson Pass  Sucess!

Climbed the south face of Rising Wolf and traversed westward to Dawson Pass. Took us less than half hour to walk up to the summit. The sky was clear and the views towards Blackfoot Mountain were absolutely stunning. Mount Phillips towering over a wild, trail-free valley looked especially impressive as well. Well worth the extra effort!

Great View  Sucess!

A great hike (after a nice boat ride) to Dawson Pass - the extra 800 (?) feet are worth it to see the views from this summit. Goats abound. We had to race back to get the last boat however.

the jan brady of glacier (aka Hegel's love nugget)  Sucess!

So this is kind of that mountain that people just happen to find themselves on because they were already, well, there. On their WAY to Flinsch or on their WAY to Rising Wolf or because they just HAPPENED to be at Dawson Pass and thought , 'hey that looks easy, wonder whats over there...' The 'bonus' if you will. The lark. The afterthought.

Poor Mount Helen: the well behaved (almost) passed over middle child of Glacier, never perceived in her own right. I myself am attempted to call Mt Helen a 'nice peak' with 'pleasant views.' The kind of compliments that if (the human equivilent of such) were written on a school report card your parents would beam with pride while you puked your guts out hoping your classmates didn't think you were that lame as well. Instead I propose GNP do a social experiment in changing the name. Mt Danger. Mt Ferocity. Mt Savage. Dead Man's Seductress. Let's see if we can't up the hits on the climber's log a bit...(afterall the ridgeline is a little feisty). Also, you can't fully appreciate Flinsch without summiting Helen, which means Flinsch needs Helen as much as Helen needs Flinsch. Ah, sweet sublation. Hegel would be smitten.

Time to head down...  Sucess!

After climbing Rising Wolf and Flinsch, I decided to "see what the views would provide from up there", so I scrambled up Helen as well. Worthwhile views of Upper Two Medicine Lake and Rockwell, for sure! Lost my pepper spray on way down...anyone find it?

MT HELEN  Sucess!

CLIMBED ALONG THE LOOP OVER PITIMAKIN/CUTBANK/DAWSON PASSES FROM THE TWO MEDICINE CAMPGROUND AFTER CLIMBING MT FLINSCH WITH BUDDY VERN INGRAHAM OF WHITEFISH, MT. WHEN WE REACHED THE HEAD OF TWO MED LAKE, THE NORTH SHORE TRAIL WAS CLOSED BY GRIZZLY ACTIVITY SO WE GOT SOME BONUS MILEAGE AROUND THE SOUTH SIDE

Mt. Helen  Sucess!

Its been a while but seems like you see a false summit from dawson, but it's still not a bad trek. I can't really recall even having to go on 3 points much less 4. View is worthwhile, you can see into the Bob Marshall as well as most of Southern GNP. Step off the south side and you'll be in upper two med lake. Very loose talus and very windy but otherwise a stroll.
