Hail & Thunderstorm  Sucess!

Painful dayhike from Mosquito Flats. Should’ve climbed the east ridge but it was hailing a bit on the way up, so I opted for cheesy Class 2 SE Face. Skies busted open as soon as I left the summit; massive hail and rain all the day way to Cox Col, pretty damn cold!

From Pine Creek  Sucess!

Started at Lake Italy after climbing Mt. Gabb the previous day. There was some solid rock on the ridge that is to the right of the huge sand/scree chute that comprises the SE side of the mountain.

SE slope  Sucess!

Traversed from Gabb. I'm with Matthew -- the whole route was crap although the views were outstanding. Passed Laura going down as I was going up. Pictures and story

Southwest Slope  Sucess!

Following a superb night at Lake Italy (kite flying included) I ascended from the outlet of the lake in the morning. Not bad climbing if you stick to the rib on the right of the chute, then a quick descent down the sand in the chute before heading over to Gabb in the afternoon.

"The Great Bruin Traverse"  Sucess!

Here's what I'm calling "the Great Bruin Traverse": Merriam-Royce-Feather-Hilgard-Julius Ceasar.

Bailed out after that via Granite Park back to Pine Crk. The full traverse would continue on to Bear Creek Spire. Lots of fun!

Day 1 of the 2005 Sierra Challenge. Reached the summit in 6.5h from the Mosquito Flat TH under threatening sky and light rain. A very strenuous day.

Route Climbed: SE Slope Date Climbed: August 6, 2005  Sucess!

Climbed with a party of four the day after the Sierra Challenge crew assaulted Hilgard. Poor weather (rain and thunder) forced part of our party back to camp on the attempt to add Gabb to the day's success.

I think Matthew is somewhat harsh. I found the hike down to, and along Italy Lake delightful, and the SE Slope not nearly the slog I was expecting. Pretty great views from the summit. 5.5hrs from the Mosquito Flat TH. Climbed Pipsqueak Spire with Mark on the way back. Trip Report

I tried to think of something nice to say about this peak, but couldn't do it. I ticked this one off my list for good.

Route Climbed: South Slope Date Climbed: August 5th, 2005  Sucess!

This was the first day of the Sierra Challenge. Day hiked from Mosquito Flats Trailhead. Summited just after Rick, and a little bit further behind Mark, Bob and Matthew. Nice views, but were scared off the summit by building clouds which soaked us on the way back to Cox Col.
