access permitted  Sucess!

Due to COVID and road construction (looks like they are replacing the guard rails) I was almost not allowed to hike the road up. The Smithsonian guy let me slide but be aware that until things go back to normal even hiking up from Madera Canyon might not be permitted. He said the road up is gated and has ‘no trespassing’ signs so be aware. I marked the herd path junction with the actual trail that runs west from Jack Peak along the ridge. It was a good herd path and the total time was 2 hours and fifty minutes to the summit area from Madera Canyon.

Loop hike  Sucess!

We hiked up Carrie Nation and Agua Caliente trails and then the connector tail to the road following surgent's route on the ascent. For the descent, we found a use trail to Agua Caliente Saddle and then we took Agua Caliente, Vault Mine and Carrie Nation trails back to Madera Canyon TH. Views from the top were great though a bit hazy in the distance. We couldn't find the pop machine!

Carrie Nation Trail - Madera Canyon  Sucess!

Beautiful fall day for this hike. The lower reaches of the trail were lovely, with lingering fall colors. We enjoyed the lizards that inhabit the SE facing walls on the upper part of the route - they were everywhere! The observatory structures are amazing, and the views from the top absolutely stunning. What a great day. Scott, thanks for the dynamite route map!

WIndy but pleasant day  Sucess!

Long on my to-do list, took advantage of first barely-cool weekend in months to hike this peak. Views from up top are beautiful. Have a dollar for a cold coke.
