Great

One of the best photos! Is that a little ice on the lake? in July!

Re: Great

Thanks Sean. Over one third of the lake was still covered in floating sheets of ice trying to make their way to the outlet. One of my hiking partners was able to catch a nice brook trout while fishing off the snow drifts to the left.

Re: Great Pic

Thanks Lodewijk. This lake is fairly high in elevation (9600 ft / 2925 m) and must have frozen very thick that year for the ice to last into July. It helped that we had a lot of late spring snowfall in 2005. Thanks again, Dave

Cold Water!

Nice angle, I hope you weren't in the water. The greens and blues are just right!

Re: Cold Water!

Thanks Marlon. Don’t worry, no chance of getting me in that water…

The photos you’ve submitted so far are excellent! Looks like you and that yellow tent have had some great trips.

Nice shot!

Did you climb the north face snow shutes?

Re: Nice shot!

Didn't climb them, but I'd sure like to give them a try... We did hike to Upper Merriam Lake for a closer look at the north face, but that was before I had any snow climbing experience.

Re: Nice shot!

Fun climb on good snow, I did it when I didn't have enough experience, two close calls with falling ice and a lone rock. Should have known what I was in for, I listened to rock fall all night on the steep face on the south side of the lake. Super fun climb.

WOW!

This is an amazing shot! I don't think I'd go for a swim though..... I attached this and a few of your other photos of lakes to my new Idaho Lakes album. If you have any more photos of Idaho lakes you're welcome to attach them to the album.

Re: Beautiful shot

Thanks! I think the best part about this area is the remoteness, its a long way from anyone's backyard. :)

are not common.
The ice on the lake speaks of the cool morning hours not to be waisted. Either capture a shot like this, or go climb the thing, or both.
