Mount Index

Mount Index

A classic mountain peak of the west - while I've not climbed Mount Index, I've eyed it for years. I'm sure many Summitt Post members are more familiar with this peak of the central Cascade Mountain Range. The vertical fingers of Mount Index can be easily seen from the Salish Sea to the west. This inspiring rock lies south of the Skykomish River and despite its relatively low elevation, it is both a dramatic and famous Western Washington landmark. Mount Index comprises three pointed spires rising steep from a low base. Looking a bit wider there are four prominent peaks in this landmass, (west to east) Mount Persis, Persindex, Mount Index and Philadelphia Mountain the latter is the highest rising over 5,500 feet above sea level from a base of just over 400 feet.

Beautiful pic...

...Of an impressive ridgeline of peaks. Would look at home in the Karakorum, no doubt!

Thanks for sharing Foster,

Big Lew

Re: Love that mountain...

The "Index massif" Matt, you got that right. I'm also a sailor and Mount Index lines up perfectly in the Snohomish Valley that it forms a notable and distinguished landmark from the northern portions of Puget Sound.
Thanks for the comment...
