Mud and more mud  Sucess!

Took the Webster-Jackson trail from the notch and ran into a lot of mud. The trail up to the branch and the section up to Jackson had more mud. We summitted Jackson and spent a while there soaking up some sun. The day was absolutely clear and we could see into forever. We also saw two Northern Shrikes who were not afraid of people in the slightest. We then headed down the Webster Cliff Trail to bag Webster. We ran into mud and standing water most of the way. It was so slippery that we were taking way too long to cover the distance. We eventually summited Webster and then headed down to Silver Cascade. Again more mud and standing water. I was tired, satisfied and coated in mud by the time we finished.

Mount Jackson  Sucess!

Climbed via the Crawford Path from Lakes of the Clouds. Some of the best views in the southern Presidentials were to be found here. Had the most amazing view of Washington at the point where the Appalachian Trail crosses a small alpine bog just below Jackson's summit. A good finish to a great first trip to the Presidentials.

Late Start, Great Ice!  Sucess!

Wow! We got a very late start to this one (3pm I think). We decided to go ahead anyways and pack what we needed for a late night. There was still plenty of snow so going late meant that others had packed out the trail. Unfortunately the late start meant turning back when I realized my memory cards were not in my camera was not happening. This was the worst hike to forget memory cards. Not only did I carry my DSLR all the way to the summit for nothing, but the Ice was fantastic on everything. We finished just after dusk.

Being late had its advantage. On the way home we were hungry and found the "Red Parka Pub" which we now frequent.

Jackson Webster Loop  Sucess!

Nice hike in the snow. Someone who had just gotten off the mountain told us that everything was super packed and there was no need for snowshoes, just crampons. That was true on the way up, but the hike across and down was a complete mess. Sinking literally up to my neck on two occasions. Lesson learned: bring snowshoes even if it looks hard.
