Caps Ridge trail  Sucess!

Another great weather day in the Presidentials. I went up the Caps Ridge trail, which was difficult, but a lot of fun. There were a lot of people on the trail, since it was during the weekend. When I got to the summit, it was considerably windier than the previous day, when I was on Madison and Adams. As long as you're comfortable with some exposure, and some Class 3/4 scrambling and climbing, this route is a lot of fun.

Mount Jefferson Climb  Sucess!

Did this as part of a long hike up Mount Adams, Jefferson, Monroe, and Madison. I don't remember the order, just that my buddy Chris and I were exhausted at the end of the day and having to stop to make some food in the dark because I was so hungry.

Busy day up there  Sucess!

Kieva and I started around 6:15am Saturday morning. Weather was unseasonably warm, clouds in and out throughout the day. We parked at Lowe's Store, taking the Lowe's Path to the intersection with the Randolph Path, then followed the trail to Edmonds Col. We were originally going to take the Castle Trail from Bowman, but the parking lot was unplowed and the trail was not broken. Above treeline the winds were gusting around 35mph with a windchill of about -1, which was pleasant compared to our climb of Mount Adams a month ago (-40 windchill). We climbed the snowfields towards the Mount Jefferson loop. We had our avalanche transievers on, shovels, and probes handy in case the worst happened. I would recommend all of these as well as an ice axe in case you slip. If you fell in a few of these sections you would not stop for a few hundred feet... We made the summit around 11:30am, surrounded by clouds, but happy to have made it. We backtracked and arrived at our car around 4:00pm. Long, but rewarding climb.

A friends 1st 5000+  Sucess!

Took a friend up for his first 5000+ summit. I enjoyed the scrambles, but my bud was dreading the descent, wanted to take another route down but I lost my shades and had to backtrack to get them. My bud didn't even know he had gone down the tough scrambles until he was beyond them. Easiest of all the 5000+ footers in NH. Caps Ridge Trail up/down

two out of three  Sucess!

Two hours and forty mins to summit Adams and from there ninety three minutes to ascend Jefferson. Nice weather that day and saw a woman getting her pants sewn up after a wardrobe malfunction. Judging by the laughing involved it'll make a fine story to tell for years to come. When I got back to the hut I decided Madison could wait for another day and I went down Airline.
