Late Summer Storm
see Madison and Adams posts. Jefferson proved a mercifully short climb and a quick summit later in the afternoon lead to a long slog through the Sphinx Col and up to the Jewell Trail. Met up with a great hiker named David from Montreal on the decent. It was nice to get some company after 24 hours of solitude with only an ornery bear near Star Lake for companionship.

Wonderful Hike
Very fun hike and a good workout. We had things to do that afternoon so we hiked quickly and did it in under three hours. Beautiful views of Mt. Washington. After about 45 minutes of tough scrambling we were amazed to see a tiny weiner dog hopping around the boulders near the summit.

Mount Jefferson
Climbed with Adams and Madison via the Gulfside Trail from Lakes of the Clouds. Great views during the entire day. We were the only people at the summit. The only problem was that with the suprising lack of wind came the black flies. Also got a terrible sunburn while returning to Lakes of the Clouds. I swear to God I will never hike without bringing sunscreen again!

White-Out
My first turn back in the Whites.
We hiked up to the perch shelter via Isreal the afternoon prior. Took Greyknob up. Just above Cornice the visibility was too low and we were unsure of the exact route. We turned back, circled around via Cornice to Castle and headed out.
We were rewarded with one good view from castle ridge.
We took the castle trail, backpacked in and planned to spend the first night camping out. There are some great camping spots about two miles in, along the streams to the left. You cross the first stream, hike in about another 50 yards, and there is another set of streams with a nice flat area. Doing the scrambles over the "castles" was fun and provides some great photo ops.
I summitted Jefferson when traversing from Adams to Washington. I went up the King's Ravine, and down the Great Gulf, then rode my bike from Dolly Copp back to the parking area for Adams. It was a loooooooong day.

Presidential Traverse
Fifth peak on a South to North Presidential Traverse. This is where the fun began. We were trying to make it to the hiker shuttle at 4:20 and summited Jefferson around 1:00 pm. Very windy, I was literally blown over on several occasions.

Caps Ridge to Adams
The Caps Ridge Trail was a ton of fun with the small scrambles up the rock caps, but the weather left much to be desired. Unfortunately, we had no views from the top.
