Route Climbed: AT Date Climbed: 3 November 2005  Sucess!

Beautiful climb and well worth it. Several lookout points offer great views.

However, neither the AT nor the Boulevard trail actually go over the true summit of Mt. Kephart. If you're a peak bagger its important to know that the trails split prior to reaching the summit. For complete information on this, see our detailed trip report which will be submitted soon on this site.

Climbed solo on my birthday in conjunction with LeConte and Charlies Bunion. Started at Newfound Gap and used Boulevard and AT. Quite a bit of snow on the trail and did not see a soul the entire day, extremely rare for the Smokies. As a bonus, saw 3 elk while driving out of the park towards Cherokee. A most excellent birthday.

Route Climbed: AT Date Climbed: August 19, 2005  Sucess!

This was an easy 6 mile round-trip hike from Newfound Gap. The views from the summit were extremely limited. We continued on to the "Jumpoff which was much more impressive.

Just a bump on the AT. Go on to the Bunion or over to Leconte...

This was an easy climb. I reached the top on the same day as Charlies Bunion.

I've hiked over Mount Kephart a number of times since I turned 16 in 1974. I was hoping to get some nice photos of the vistas on this trip, but the weather did not cooperate and I was faced with fog, mist, and thick clouds. It means I'll have to return as soon as I can.
