Solo hike in the morning  Sucess!

Started solo at 7AM from Newfound Gap. Summited on my way to the Jump-Off via the AT and Boulevard Trails. Eerie and beautiful hike at that time of day!

Hiked an icy Appalachian Trail from Newfound Gap. Nice views of frost covered trees and line of clouds from the Jump Off. Then it was on to Mount LeConte.

Winter Storm  Sucess!

Climbed it from Newfound Gap just as winter storm 'Electra' was baring in. I was pretty well soaked by the time I got back. I didn't go to the Jumpoff as there was no use. I wasn't going to get a view regardless.

To the Jumpoff  Sucess!

Hiked the Jumpoff trail over the summit, but haze rapidly rushed in between my visit to the Bunion and the Jumpoff. No views but the cliff was impressive to sense up close.

nice afternoon hike  Sucess!

My son and I hiked the standard route from Newfound Gap to the top via the spur trail to the Jumpoff. We had a great hike and enjoyed the views from the Jumpoff as well as other spots along the way.

My first Smokies sixer  Sucess!

Went to the jumpoff in January with rime frost covering all the trees. Spectacular 1,000 ft cliff covering in ice. White covered mountains, vast rugged jungle wilderness and 80 mile visibility gave me a long lasting impression that day. This started me on exploring all the high mountains of the south. Very nice!

Via Alum Cave/Boulevard

We hiked it via Alum Cave and then taking The Boulevard back to the AT. We took the side trail to The Jumpoff. The Jumpoff is very very impressive.

Bagged?Tagged?! Whatever  Sucess!

To the top and over to the jump-off, which is a truly awe inspiring sight that definitely rivals Charlie's Bunion. Very easy little side hike off of the AT on the way to Le Conte or the Bunion.

Mt. What?  Sucess!

So apparently I bagged this peak 8 months ago with Charlie's Bunion and did not realize it. I had no idea that it was actually a named mountain until I decided I wanted to bag Kephart and saw that it's location was on the AT between Newfound Gap and Charlie's Bunion. Interesting to find out I've already hiked it.

icewater was empty except for two guys, but later heard that kephart shelter was filled with 14, good thing we decided to stay.

Route Climbed: AT Date Climbed: 3 November 2005  Sucess!

Beautiful climb and well worth it. Several lookout points offer great views.

However, neither the AT nor the Boulevard trail actually go over the true summit of Mt. Kephart. If you're a peak bagger its important to know that the trails split prior to reaching the summit. For complete information on this, see our detailed trip report which will be submitted soon on this site.

Climbed solo on my birthday in conjunction with LeConte and Charlies Bunion. Started at Newfound Gap and used Boulevard and AT. Quite a bit of snow on the trail and did not see a soul the entire day, extremely rare for the Smokies. As a bonus, saw 3 elk while driving out of the park towards Cherokee. A most excellent birthday.

This was an easy 6 mile round-trip hike from Newfound Gap. The views from the summit were extremely limited. We continued on to the "Jumpoff which was much more impressive.
