Route Climbed: Complete double traverse Date Climbed: June 18, 1994
Have done the traverse many times. The most interesting was when we hiked up the Slide Trail on Flume, then went N over Liberty, Little Haystack, and Lincoln, to the summit of Lafayette. The we turned arund and traversed the other way, back to Liberty and descended from there. Brutal!
Route Climbed: Bridle to Greenleaf to summit Date Climbed: June 1992
Nice hike up from Franconia Notch. Tony was getting married in a day or two at Lonesome Lake on the Cannon side of the notch and we decided to climb Lafayette one day. Good views of Cannon Cliff. Met the part of the wedding party halfway up and the little girl was climbing in plastic bolo sandals!
A clear sky when we start traveling to New Hampshire.
But the mountain are the only place where it rains. We got a lot a rain and get lost in the fog. Thanks to Geneviève, we make it back. She know her way in the forest.
Until I went out west, this was my favorite hike. Multiple ascents in the summer, one ill fated attempt in the winter (terrible weather- we never got even close to tree line and became drenched on our second day of camping when the temperature suddenly rose about 15 degrees. We dried out a day later in an all-night laundromat in Littleton), but each time was great.
Route Climbed: Old Bridle Path/Franconia Ridge Traverse Date Climbed: September 23, 2002
Started climbing at about 9 am in cloudy, drizzly weather. We decided to the Franconia Ridge Traverse and do Lafayette first. No views until about halfway up Agony Ridge where we saw the clouds streaming along following the contour of the ridges. Decided to take a break about .1 miles from the hut but as we reached the Greenleaf Hut the winds picked up and clouds socked us in. We decided to take another break and warm up in the hut.
I had never done a "hut" experience before but decided that a clean restroom, warm suroundings, attractive female hutworkers, some food and a quick game of chess with my climbing buddy was kinda cool.
After about an hour, we decided to press on and as we passed Eagle Lake and started the final push to the summit, the clouds started breaking up. By the time we hit the summit, we had some decent views over to Lincoln. Talked to an AT thru-hiker up top and then headed on over to Lincoln........
