Beautiful weather and views! Hiked up from Upper Lamarck Lake, where me and my gf camped the night before, and scrambled up and over the Col to outstanding views of Darwin and Mendel. Descent via East Face (class 2-3). Like to come back and climb North Couloir some day!
Beautiful autumn dayhike out of North Lake.
Packed to Upper Lamarck Lake, dropped the packs and climbed the peak. Slept in leisurely the next morning and packed out.
En route to 13464. Trip Report
Out for a day of backcountry fishing at Lamarck Lakes but it was too windy for fishing. Scrambled up the southeastern slope (class 3 at best) Solo, while Bob (my brother) headed back down to North Lake. Tagged what I believed to be the true summit, the highest horn on the East side of the vast summit plateau. Very windy on the summit with 80 mph gusts.
Fun jaunt up to the summit from the col. after spending four days in the Darwin canyon, and climbing Darwin. A wonderful summit that shows the beautiful, austere faces of Darwin and Medel.
Nice day hike with the dog. The dog had no trouble climbing the east face
Day 3, 2007 Sierra Challenge. Climbed with Eric coming up from Darwin Canyon after having climbed Muriel and Goethe. Descended straight down the East Face to the Lamarck Col trail. <11h car to car.
Nice trail up to the base of the peak from Upper Lamarck Lake! Fun scramble to the top from there...
Sierra Challenge rest day with Chris (metasyn11).
As a rest day from the Sierra Challenge, Tom and I headed up to Lamarck Col and left the trail early, shooting for Larmarck's east ridge. It was surprisingly decent class 2 talus scrambling, and although the summit views were superb, it was also quite cold and windy so we didn't linger.
Climbed from Dangleberry; Nice little scramble
I did the summit with Rob we had a killer time...signed the register..as snowhiker july 07
Made a quick scramble up the southeastern slope (class 3 at best) with Sierra renagade and talus sprint-master Rick Kent, while Debbi headed over Lamarck Col (she had tagged Lamarck two years prior). Tagged the summit, signed the register and took off over to Mount Darwin for some fun on the North Face Couloir (AI2).
Fun climb to Lamarck Col area, then up the cl.2 S face. Considered Tom Ross as a bonus but later decided against it.
Scrambled some 3rd and 4th class slabs and cracks from the col w/ Etsuko. Pretty much followed the ridge all the way up. Went to the far left summit by mistake (it looked like the most proud peak). After scrambling its knife-edge ridge to the top, we looked across the summit plateau and realized that there is a pile of talus higher than us. Had to go there :(
Not a bad peak considering that I climbed it with a badly sprained ankle. My 71 year old dad waited for us at the col. This was our second day of seven in the beautiful Sierra backcountry.
Climbed from Lamarck Col on the way into Darwin Basin. Fun class 3 climbing most of the way up.
Climbed while on my way back from the Ionian Basin. Great solo trip, hardly saw a soul.
23 Oct 07 - Soloed North Couloir with variety of terrain, best of which was bulletproof ice and some mixed rock & ice. Long day but quite the accomplishment.
21 Sept 05 - Well HELL, this was my cheap consolation prize for not being able to make Darwin and Mendel! Wonderful last day of summer marked with nearly a foot of snow at Lamarck Col and menacing clouds for a couple of days. Breath-taking view of Darwin and Mendel from atop Lamarck, well worth the two nights sleep in my truck!
