Got up to Day last winter. Approach from Grant is the way to go, thought its a little bit of a bushwhack. Getting over to Black shouldn't be too much harder.

Do you have more information on the "Grant" approach you mentioned getting to Mt. Day? Is this an access road east of San Jose? Kincaid off Mt. Hamilton Road looks like good access as per Bob's write-up.
