Checked off the list  Sucess!

Views were good from the summit, but honestly I was much more impressed with those from Markham (which I hit on the way back), and even those from the lower trail over Bear Canyon. It was also quite hot... could hardly stand to touch the metal register box.

Good way to close out the year  Sucess!

One of three peaks hit in one relatively easy hike. It was cool seeing remnants of the old Mt. Lowe railway. This peak certainly provided the best views of the four.

Mt Wilson Roundup  Sucess!

Peak 1 of 7 in the Mt Wilson area. Probably the most enjoyable of all the summits I visited.

Sam Merrill Trail  Sucess!

Been up this trail several times, crowded along the bottom but starts to thin out as you go farther up.

Markham and Lowe from Eaton Saddle  Sucess!

Climbed via Eaton Saddle on the morning of July 5, 2015. As always I had limited time, and intended to just climb Markham, but with Lowe right there and only an extra 200 feet or so seemed silly not to summit it too. I hope to climb Lowe via the Sam Merrill trail and Echo Mountain during the cool season.

Don't Eat Donuts While Hiking  Sucess!

Good hike through nice chaparral with a good friend. The title is self-explanatory, that wasn't too much fun. It's also scary parking on a steep hill in a manual you are just learning how to drive. Decently clear day for California.

Summer solstice day hike from Rubio  Sucess!

We had our eye on a peak around here ever since reaching Inspiration Point on a previous hike. This time the opportunity came on a summer solstice. We started at the Rubio Canyon TH at 6am. We were at Echo Mountain by 7 then Inspiration Point via Castle Canyon Trail at 8 and the peak of Lowe via the East Trail by 9. It took the same mount of time to get down as we took slightly longer Sam Merrill Trail on the way down before descending back to Rubio Canyon. Back at the car by 12pm.

Would hate to do this one any later in the day or summer. It was hot on the way down.

From Lake Street  Sucess!

Came up from Lake Street. Went up the East Trail. Had to dodge mountain bikers coming down. The view on top is nice. Also went on to Mt. Markham. Good, fast training hike, except for distance from Lake to Echo Mountain. Went with Mark J.

really fun summit  Sucess!

I summited Lowe for the first time from Lake Ave/Echo Mountain in March of 09. I took the trail up to Echo, then upper Sam Merrill to East Lowe, then back down through Castle Canyon, for maybe a 13-14 miler. I think the time took 6 hours total, give or take.

Since then, I've taken different variations to get up to Lowe and while its always a fun and moderate hike, some of the west trail up to the top has been eroded from the Station Fire. Its doable but be careful if you get vertigo :-)
