Woods on the peak and surrounding area were lush and verdant. Campground was full, but no one was walking up the path to the highpoint while I was there near sundown.
after my first year I got 19 HP's and 2nd year none it was good to be back. Let it was quite perilous. Rock slides, avalanches, and radioactive squirrels were quite a match. After the 4.357min run/walk I was the winner
Short, easy hike from the parking lot. Beautiful day!
Been twice. Pretty.
The real fun was scrambling and exploring at the cliffs.
HP #9. Beautiful day and great summit, but even better when we got to check out the fall foliage views from the hang glider launch. With McCannster
Climbed Mt Magazine and Driskill Mountain during a 2-day highpointing trip with Sarah. The weather was cool but clear both days. (HP #38)
Beautiful fall day on Mt Magazine. Nice summit marker, and great views from the hang glide launch site, just off the road by the lodge.
Reached the top with the wife saying "remind me why you are doing this?" Pictures at http://www.willhiteweb.com/state_highpoint/arkansas/magazine_mountain_375.htm
I've been there.
Arkansas has done a great job with its highpoint - really enjoyed the state park
set up in the campground just before sunset, then headed up to the summit before heading to bed. first highpoint of the first in a series of 5 hp's hopefully over the next week. will write a full trip report at the end.
Lovely, windy, cool spring day. Arkansas, your high point was surprisingly lovely and covered in wildflowers.
I disagree that it's overdeveloped; I'm glad to see some high points accessible to people of many abilities.
Best of the 4 state HPs my son, Lance and I've done this week. Beautiful State Park with nice amenities. My first time in Arkansas and I wasn't disappointed.
Nice hike, but the state park is too developed. A generator at a nearby lodge could be heard for a significant portion of the stretch near the top. The longer ascent trails are a better alternative.
Woke up in Little Rock to an ice storm. Ice covered roads greeted us on our way up the mountain. We were the only ones on the mountain. Ran up the mountain in an ice storm. Took a couple pics, tried to sign the book, but it was frozen shut. Great hike. No views because of the storm, but it was awesome.
Very pretty area of Arkansas! HP'd with husband and kids. Pleasantly surprised by the beauty of this climb.
First stop on a five state trip. When I got there, the campground was full so I had to spend the night in my truck at the lodge parking lot. I woke to a rainy morning which made the hike to Signal Hill fun. Not much to see from the summit, but some good views from the drive off the mountain.
A great day for a great short hike! It was very cold that night. I camped really close to the summit.
To add a bit more to the "climb", we started at the lodge, over to Mossback Ridge trail, connecting to Bear Hollow (nice views at Sunrise rock)..over to Will's Apple Road trail with a short descent to check out Buckman's pool)...short stop to "refuel" at the visitor's center (I don't recommend the coffee in the machine---more like brown colored water)....onto North Rim Trail (and the best part in my opinion)...then finally up Signal Hill (I agree the map marker up there is cool) and back down the opposite way to the lodge. State #6!
