We enjoyed the nice location and the cool Arkansas map they were building on the summit.
A tough climb of one of the most formidable peaks on earth!
Spring break climb.
Sunny day, temps in the high 80's. Hiked the 7 mile loop from the visitor center to the summit and back. Had a bear encounter near the end. Didn't see it, but could hear it huffing in the very near distance. Even though this wasn't a difficult climb, I totally enjoyed it. It was my first highpoint and it got me hooked on a sport that I didn't even know existed.
Wandered around semi-lost before I eventually found the right trail. Pleasant enough.
One heck of a bushwack!! Ended up climbing the direct south face.
Took the .5 mile trail from the campground due to a recently sprained ankle. Nice day and got some nice views at the park, although there were no views from the summit. Highpoint #10.
What king of name is that... Magazine...
Well it was nice... but it was pitch black...
We even brought out our headlamps to sign the register
Spanky, my dog, and I hit the top of Mount Magazine on a brisk March morning. For details of our adventure please go to http://50summits.blogspot.com
On a brisk October morning my wife, three kids, and I hiked up the trail from the campsite to the summit for our second highpoint.
There was soo much fog that we couldnt see each other 10 feet away. A nice hike anyway.
I liked Mt. Magazine. It was a pain to get there from Paris, AR, because of all this stupid construction going on. But met some folks up at the top there, and we all talked for awhile. State Highpoint #20 for me.
Wow, Alan reminded me I hadn't signed the log. Nice little hike with my favorite climbing partner and great friends Gary and Amy.
From Cove Lake north of Magazine it is an 11 mile hike. Wonderful day, good weather. My only worry; deer hunters. Ran out of memory in camera, so no photos.
This was my fourth highpoint. I competed in a triathlon that morning near Arkadelphia, and worried that I might be too tired to hike this trail. Well it's only 1.5 miles, and not overly difficult. Arkansas is very pretty.
Easy hike to the top. Lots of snow made it fun to crunch my way to the summit. It was cold though!
The beauty of this part of Arkansas surprised me. I had no idea. This park has many nice hikes and overviews. The summit is very cozy. As a silly/stupid sidenote, THE SIMPLE LIFE with Paris Hilton & Nicole Ritchie was filmed close to here (Ozark, Paris, and Altus, Arkansas). Hard to imagine those two in this area for a whole month!
Hiked at night from the upper parking lot to the top. Easy hike.
