This this with Tri-County and 10,420 in about 90 minutes. Beutiful view but too many ski lifts/summer homes. Was home for lunch.
this and Preston Peak I do one or more times a year.
started at Guardsman Pass, then went up Venture, Clayton, and Preston.
Last peak of short ridge run
Climbed up to Preston Peak and then over to Clayton Peak from parking lot. Signed the log in the mailbox. Some fun boulders at the top.
#2 7/26/15 - Clayton, Preston, Pioneer, Sunset, Wolverine/Tusc & Millicent
North ridge boulder hop. Glissade descent. Thanks Brighton for ruining the gem of Northern Utah.
From the winter closure of Guardsman Pass down by Brighton. Closure added 2.5 mi one-way or thereabouts. Perfect snow conditions. No snowshoes, no crampons, just solid ice axe work from shortly above the pass to the small point, then the summit. Snow conditions like this, I am told, are rare here in July.
Climbed over PT 10420 and on to Clayton Peak via Guardsman Pass. Also went up PT 10026 on the other side of the pass.
Lots of lactic acid in my legs and lots of snacks for my daughter kept her in the carrier to the top from Guardsman's Pass.
After work ridge run of Sunset Peak, Pioneer Peak, Preston Peak, and Clayton Peak. Round trip 3.5 hours from Brighton.
From Guardsman with Scott Wesemann before work,
hiked this one on an outing with my brother, Harold. He was exercising a sprained ankle from 5 days earlier. I did Peak 10,026 on the other side of Guardsman Pass first while he started up Peak 10,420. I caught up with him at the top of 10,420 then bagged this one while he made his way back to Guardsman Pass. I met up with him back at the pass a half hour later. Beautiful summer day in the Wasatch Mountains.
Easy hike with great views into Park City and Heber. Great day for a hike!
No problems, hiked a trail from Guardsman Pass. Map and pictures at http://www.willhiteweb.com/alta_ski_area/clayton_peak/guardsman_061.htm
Nice, short hike. Nice peak to get away from the heat in SLC.
Climbed from the pass with summits of UN 10420 both coming and going. These were my first ranked summits in the Sawatch!
8/2/08 - Climbed as part of the Brighton Ridge Run.
Parked at the gate on the Guardsman Pass Road. Hiked up the west ridge of 10420. Hit 10420, Clayton, Preston/10315, 10321, Pioneer Peak, and Sunset Peak. Descended to Brighton via Lake Catherine. Great snow conditions. We didn't need either snowshoes or crampons. With Anne Perry. My 15th time up here.
Skinned up from the base of the Crest Express lift at Brighton, to the backcountry entry point at the top of that lift. Of course the ski resort was closed for the season. Went along the pioneer ridge to Pioneer Peak. From the Pioneer Peak I back tracked, and continued along the ridge line bagging Preston Peak, Clayton Peak, and unnamed peak at N 40.60001 W 111.55839 (1.0 km N 8° as the crow flies from Clayton Peak at 10,420 ft). The whole trip, with breaks and everything took 5.5 hours.
Did Clayton and a few other peaks as well. Great views and a perfect day.
7/23/2009- I did Honeycomb Cliffs in the morning before work and decided to do Clayton after. It was 100 degrees in the valley, but in the 70's on the summit with some nice cloud cover. The mosquitoes were atrocious though.
7/21/10- Before work with Matt Van Horn.
8/24/11- Part of a 24 mile 8300 ft day that started in Lambs Canyon.
