Hot day   Sucess!

Up Barr trail as the Incline was closed (covid). Decided to go up to Manitou since I had already done Rocky. Tons of lady bugs up top, and much needed shade. Very hot day, especially on way down. In the nineties. Still a cool area around there.

Semi-obscure local's mountain  Sucess!

This was the second mountain that I ever climbed, when living in Manitou Springs in the late 80's. I huffed and puffed up the Barr Trail to get near this mountain. This one and Cameron's Cone were early ones that gave me the climbing bug. They also casused me to stop smoking because I decided I liked hiking better than smoking!

the cadets blew right past...  Sucess!

While I struggled with the incline, the cadets easily blew right past me. Nevertheless, this was a great conditioning climb for the later season in the high country.

Incline-->Rocky Mountain-->Mount Manitou  Sucess!

Summited Rocky Mountain after hiking the Incline, then bushwhacked from RM to Mount Manitou's summit. Easy bushwhack through open forest. Walked down the experimental forest road to the junction with Barr and back down to the bottom.

May 9, 2009  Sucess!

Summited with HokieJim. This is definitely the "ugly step-sister" as mentioned in the route page, but well worth it anyways!

Basic Bushwacking  Sucess!

Climbed the incline and then continued on to Rocky Mtn's false summit, then true summit. Decided to bushwack over to Manitou and returned from the road along J-Pipe, then back down the incline. Never saw a trail on the way from the road to/from the summit of Manitou.

Summit #6  Sucess!

Did Barr Trail to the Experimental Forest turnoff, then summited Mount Manitou. Relaxed and took a little nap (that was wonderful!) after which my dog Keisha and I took the trail over to Rocky Mountain. Another beautiful view, and I took the time to mark the trail at the top a little better.

5th summit! (1st with the dog)  Sucess!

This is my 5th climb of Mt Manitou, but set a couple of firsts. This was my first summit of Manitou with my dog Keisha, and the first time I'd done both Rocky Mountain (6th summit) and Mount Manitou at the same time. To top it off, we did the Incline in about 54 minutes. Still getting in shape for the year!

Great time, just little bit of wind, lots of sun! Should be back a few more times this year.

Barr Trail to Fremont/J-Pipe/Around Rocky Mountain  Sucess!

Fantastic blue-bird day on the Front Range. Headed up Barr Trail, left the crowds at the Fremont-Pikes Summit junction. Headed into deep, mostly un-tracked powder through the Fremont Forest. Dropped our snow shoes for the final summit scamble and enjoyed the summit among massive Cougar prints in the snow. Views of snow-clad Pikes Peak and Almagre were just too much. Left the summit and returned by cutting north-east through much untracked powder then connecting with the "shortcut between Barr Trail and the Incline" and backtracking down the Barr Trail. GPS registered 9.37 miles. Hiking partners: Diane, Carol, Dave & Joe.

Barr Trail  Sucess!

It was an unpredicted balmy day in the Springs. Great weather for the climb. It doesn't seen many people hike this minor peak, but it's good for some nice moderate exercise.

After Rocky Mountain  Sucess!

Made the short traverse after climbing Rocky Mtn. via the Incline. Bushwhacked my way both up and down. The major obstacles is downed timber, not rocks. Views are sparse, due to the trees, but it was a beautiful day. Went back down the Barr Trail, after following a totally different route than my ascent off the summit of Rocky. 2 hrs., 45 min RT.

Postholed all the way  Sucess!

Looks like this is the first summit since last October. Overall, this is my third summit of Mount Manitou! The Incline was nice and clear today, but once I hit the J pipes, the snow was a foot deep. Heading up the trail to the summit ridge, it was 2 foot deep. However, the summit was clear, and I enjoyed a Dos Equis in the company of the sleeping ladybugs.

Mt. Manitou  Sucess!

Mount Manitou via the incline/J-pipe express. Great little addition to the incline workout. Overshot the path on Long's Ranch Road so I did a bit of bushwacking. Tons of folks on the incline but I didn't see a soul once I got past that.

Route Climbed: J-Pipe Express Date Climbed: 15 Jan 2006  Sucess!

Climbed with my 9-year old son, and was quite surprised to see so few summit logs since I last climbed in Aug 2005. This was an absolutely GORGEOUS day, so got some great pics

I did notice some ribbons tied along the route, most notably on the 4-wheeler route between Rocky Mountain and Mount Manitou, there's now a ribbon on the north side of the road. This leads to a very VERY small trail that takes you right to the summit. This is the same trail I tried to find in August (and could see using Google Earth) but failed.

Route Climbed: Longs Ranch Road Date Climbed: 10-31-2005  Sucess!

I did a birthday hike up to the summit. Nice weather, mid thirties. The summit trail is almost non-existent. When Longs Ranch is at it's highest point between Rocky Mountain and Manitou there is a ridge that heads toward the summit. A trail really isn't necessary, just stay on the ridge and head toward the summit. returning of course stay on the ridge and head for Rocky Mountain. One person had signed the summit log since August.

I of course saw no one.

All this in view of a city of half a million.

I overshot the summit trail and walked all the way to the road to the experimental forest and back adding ten minutes to my hike.
