Love Mt Marcy! How can you not love Mount Marcy?!?
Halloween Climb, "Monsters on Marcy"
Spent 4 days in adks with my son. It was a killer time. going in 2011 to do it all over. The trip up marcy was very demanding hard on the 44 year old feet but very much worth it. Ran out of water 1/2 way down. That will not happen again. So much to see loved every sec........
A nice bivvy on top, as well.
We took full climbing gear which made for 70+ lb. packs over the top and in to Avalanche Pass. Brought to ex-military friend and they both said the hike was tougher than advanced training. Lots of bears too!
Great hike and views. stopped at lake placid brewery after for some delicious local brew
Did not summit, we had an issue just a 1/4 mile from the top (just past where you come out of the trees). Lots of snow, and wind, but otherwise a nice day and a fun climb.
the weather was nice the whole way up, but the trail was muddy in spots (typical of the Aidirondacks). Beautiful views from the top. I'm glad I made it up early since there were throngs of people coming up when I headed down.
Hiked this one with my wife, who's a bit slow. Took us 11.5 hours to do the 15 mile Van Hoevenberg Trail, with about 7 hours of cold and rain. Still, a great day, despite no views at the top.
Parked on South Meadow and started up around 6am. Reached the summit around 9am and spent half an hour alone up there until the summit ranger arrived. Weather was beautiful. On the way back down I made side trips up Table Top and Phelps. Amazing views from Phelps but was much too crowded for my taste. Reached my car around 3pm and headed on down to the Catskills for some hiking the next day.
With my brother, overcast but nice--still had some views. 5:30 round trip (2:45 up, 2:45 down)
Did it as part of a solo trip. Climb itself was not too bad, but given the time of year, there was steady rain and limited visibility at summit. Loved the lean to, hated having to post hole the entire trail from it.
Followed the Van Hoevenberg Trail up & down. Stayed at the Adirondack Loj for the convienence of an early start, nearness to the trailhead and the ammenities of a bed and cooked meals.
lots of people, good friends and great memories.
A great ending to a long hike.We hiked in at Upper works and climbed Marshall,Cliff,Redfield,Gray,Skylight and finished thr deal with Marcy.Weather was extraordinary for most of the two days.By the time we reached marcy's summit clouds had rolled in along with high winds nd fridged temperatures. The hike out to our car spot at the Loj was pleasant below treeline. It was a great way to close oput the winter season...JimW
It was a balmy -10F with 40+ mph winds at the top. The trail was a little too narrow to board down, so we descended mostly in split-ski mode. Only saw 2 skiiers on the upper trail, so had it pretty much to ourselves.
Mt.Marcy was outstanding. This was a picture perfect day.I also summitted Skylight ,Gray and Tabletop on the same day.It was one of the last dry days in the Adirondacks for this season
my first solo mountain adventure. first time really out in the mountains. amazing view! was worried it was gonna be cloudy bcuase it rained all night. Went up phelps mountain too. long day
This is the mountain that inspired me to climb and be out doors more. Did it alone in great conditions compared to others that have posted (although it was a bit overcast).
Hiked up VanHoevenbeg from South Meadows where we camped. Beautiful warm day on the summit, decent number of people there. camped at Slant Rock. Packed out past Bushnell Falls through Klondike Notch, great fall hike.
My fiance and I summitted Marcy one fall day after heavy rains moved out. We were the only ones up there as the winds battered us. This is an amazing area!
